All the above are great. I would add:

Voodoo Chile - Jimi
Layla - Clapton
Life In The Fast Lane - Eagles (Joe Walsh)
Back In Black - AC/DC (I know, it's only a closed hi-hat, but...)
Sgt. Peppers L.H.C.B. - Beatles (including the intro sound effects)

Love,
Todd

Third stone from the sun...As a matter of fact every song on "Are You Experienced" has an amazing intro.

I know I'm gonna get flamed for this but...I do like the intro riff to Cannibal Corpse's "Hammer Smashed Face." Other than that, my favorite intro riff is probably the intro to Texas Flood or The House is Rockin' by SRV. :)

I think my favorite intro riff ever is to "Give it Away" by the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

I went thru the whole thread waiting to see one of the best alltime intros, and didn't see it. It is the intro that made more teenagers want to play guitar than any other....ever!

That is what we call an empirical observation, not backed by evidence based research. In fact, random clincal trials in my laboratory support the hypothesis that it was "Johnny B. Goode". 8)

It just came on the radio so how about:

"Walk This Way" by Aerosmith

Many of my personal favorites stem from Rich Robinson:

"Twice As Hard"
"Jealous Again"
"High Head Blues"

I;m Your Captain/Closer to Home by Grand Funk. It may not be one of the most complicated riffs ever, but this one has stuck with me since 1970, and I think it is awsome.
