+1 .. but they do take time to get used to.

My other option was a standard strat with CS69 pups.. love them both

Definitely try out an American Deluxe HSS. Live a little and treat yourself to the mapley goodness as well!

On second thought ... I'd buy a good second hand strat from craigslist and put the pups you want in them , CS69 for Hendrix, 50's for Trower, etc... you'd save a lot of money that way knowing that there are many people out there who buy guitars and never use or abuse them and them sell them to make closet space.
You can get a good standard for 600 a deluxe for 800-850 easily.
