SRV is my favorite. But recently upon hearing John Mayer Trio, i got to say that Mayer produces some pretty nice sounds. His radio crap can really turn you off though.

Rory Gallagher - Taste
Rory Gallagher - Rory Gallagher and his band
Rory Gallagher - Solo material.

He's just the best guitarist there was IMO. Technically brilliant, energetic, totally immersed in his music, no time for family or a life, just music. tragic but it showed in his music. Many of my heroes play strats, but Rory is numero uno.

I idolize anyone who can get a great Strat sound. When you really think about it, there aren't very many people who can actually play this guitar correctly!

My friend, this is the beauty of the strat. There is no correct way!

Hendrix for me. Because of how quickly he learned how to play so well ( a little over a decade), his factor on the innovation scale (enormous, who like him played with roaring feedback and could make bomb sounds, or any sound he wanted out of his guitar?), and his influence. BIG BIG influence on many modern guitarists. There are very, very few that don't like him.

SRV second. Two words; Texas FLood.

Blackmore, I think its' better because he can arrange a entire orchestra anc compose pieces like the Gates of Babylon and Stargazer, something that honestly Hendrix couldn't do.

Hendrix: more important because he influenced a lot of people, personally I think that Electric Ladyland isn't nothing special, are you experienced? on the other side was great, a real beginning.

Malmsteen: although in his letter days, aka after 2000, he seemed to have lost inventive he showed how to play a Strat like nobody before, his classical influence in pieces like Trilogy suite are difficult to beat.

Which is your favorite Rory period/album?

I like the "Photo Finish"/"Stage Struck" heavy power trio stuff the best.

im not so well versed on the periods of Rory, but of his studio albums, my fav 3 in order are:

Top Priority.
Tatoo
Blueprint.

But in all honesty its his live albums that i listen to the most. They are what got me into Rory, as there is such energy in those albums. the first time i listened to a studio album i was actually a little disapointed as it felt sterile and un-Rory like. I now appriciate them for what they are, but Irish Tour and Live in Europe are still my absolute fav.
