Welcome Larry!!

Nice gear! It's just above freezing right now, and raining hard. The only good thing about that is snow in the mountains.

Brrrrrrrrr.

Gridlok :(

welcome aboard Larry.
Can't wait to swap stories, experiences, general b.s. and advice.

It's pretty much all good people here (but don't mention intonation around certain people it will take over any thread shhhhhhhhh)

Most of us 'old guys' didn't mention much about the 'I' word, anyways. lol!

Most of the bands that I played with were all like an 'on the road' hockey team...play, drink, sleep a little, play, drink, sleep a little...like that!

Lots more though...tons of fun (and bad stuff) goin' on over the years

I've never been an intonation nut myself. For heavy blues rock it's just not that big a deal. Especially once the beers kick in :D . I've been playing for about 30 years now. Been in good bands, band bands, fairly successful bands. Covered a lot of miles, seen the inside of a lot of dives.

Now I'm a dad and my sons are preparing to pick up where I left off. My bass playing son and I are sitting in with some guys for a blues gig this Sunday. It should be a lot of fun.

Welcome Larry,

This is a great forum with a bunch of friendly & helpful people on it.

What bands did you play with? I've seen a lot of Canuck bands.

We should be getting some snow soon, eh :)

Regards.

I've only been here for 2 days and have found out an awful lot about my instruments that I've had for years!

My Fender Stratocaster, ser.# 255922, was built sometime in 1969.

My Fender F65 Acoustic (which I purchased sometime in 1972) was actually built in 1972!

My old Gretsch that my dad gave me in the 60's, is actually a PRINCESS model, ser. # 68868 and is dated to mid-1964.

Cool, eh?
This is great fun!
Thanks,
Larry

You've never had the neck off (to note the neck date)?

You've never peeked under the pickguard (to check out the codes on the pickups and pots)?

If you do those things, let us know the "magic" numbers you find, and we can tell you even more about that Stratocaster.

I would love to see some more pictures of it, by the way: the headstock, etc ...

Cheers!

Here are pics taken, today! Sorry I've just got a 'cheapy' little Kodak camera. I'll describe some of the stuff to you:

Front of the Strat...I love this guitar:

Back; ya I know, she's had some wear & tear...lol:
Image

The next 2 shots are very blurry...like I said, my camera...I won't blame my eyes, this time...the number is 255922

2 pictures of the headstock...again, sorry for the blurr. Under the words 'WITH SYNCHRONIZED TREMOLO' are these numbers:
PAT 2,741,146 3,143,028
lol, I had to use a 'magnifying glass' to see those!

A guitar tech I had in the early '70's changed off the pick-ups to humbuckers. I had an old Les Paul stolen, uninsured of course, and couldn't afford another...this helped out the versatility of the Strat. (I still have the original pickup and bridge cover)
I personally have never seen under the pickguard or had the neck off. I wouldn't attempt such a thing myself.
Thanks for any 'dating' help you can give me with the numbers I have.

Larry

I agree that a HSS (humbucker/single/single) Stratocaster is very versatile.

Those pictures are just fine, Larry, thanks. Here's a great site for information on vintage Fenders. You've probably exhausted the info you can get without looking "under the hood." Got a screwdriver and a little patience?

The pots have codes that give the Year/Week they were made. The neck should have a Month & Year. The pickups could have the date they were made --- take a look at the one that's out of the guitar.

Is that the original pickguard that was modified for the humbucker?

Sorry for all of the questions, I'm just an old Stratocaster Nut.
