I just bought a stractocaster ultra.
But I'm confused that the body of this ultra is black and the pick-up is different from the other ultra I have ever heard of.
How con I make sure if this is fake or not?

It is difficult to "fake" a Ultra since it's one of the rare models with a ebopny fingerboard and abalone dots...

Anyway, pics please!

PUs and pickguard have been replaced for sure, the fingerboard seems ebony. Usually I've seen just sunburst Ultras therefore I cannot say if this is the original body, I think you can check disassembly it.

I've only seen burst ultras too. They're VERY cool and beautiful guitars. Changing the pickups on it kind of defeats the purpose of getting an ultra in the first place, but we're all different.

A closer shot of the fingerboard and the front and back of the headstock would give more detail though.

There were a couple different burst color ultras and the ones that were done in Black used a Transparent black Finish and I as far as I no they all had 4 Lace Single coils the Blue,Silver and two Red set up as a dually. Also I dont see the Mini switch in you picture. It does not look like a Ultra in the photo  I have seen a few with a Lace gold in the mid position on in the latter 90's models, but there should be 4 pickups and a mini switch and the Black does not look right to me.

Ya! I'm sure that the pick-up of this Ultra I bought was replaced. Cuz my friend sellin' this to me told he changed before. But the body for sure isn't transparent. He told me that's not pure black, but a little dark green. He tries to find the catalog of 1993 to prove the body is the original one. Shall I believe him first? I'm tryin' not to break the friendship between us. But I'm still curious about my Ultra.

I dunno, all the ultras I've seen were transparent, surely I'd say the neck is original, the body...mmm.

Anyway, you can check with Fender, their customer service is good, they'll provide feedback telling you if black was a option or not.

The main flaw, IMO, is the removal of the entire original electronics.

How can I contact the server to check the serial number?
Do they have the e-mail or phone number that I can get the feedback ASAP

Ultras have Figured Maple top and the finishes used on them are to show of the figuring thru the finish, Maybe your friend has a neck from a Ultra on a Standard Strat and he does not no it. Was it bought new from a dealer as a Ultra? Or was he just told it was a Ultra and jobed when he bought it used?

Yeah, this is typical of most of the ultra's I've seen...

Image

Real beauties, and great playing and sounding guitars.

Damn, I might have to grab one off ebay now :)

I think it is strange that someone would change the Ultra's Lace pickups to Standards and get rid of the TBX control and the Mini switch and pickguard and so on  Like I said to me in looks like a Standard with a Ultra neck but even then I would have to see a picture of the neck plate and the skunk stipe and turners to be sure of that :?:
