Hey, question: does anyone know if the Tom Delonge Strat is still being manufactured?

I think they were only made from 2001 to 2003 you can get a Straight Six Strat which is very simular but without the hardtail it is a factory special run of 831 made. The one on the right of course is the Straight Six.

Ya a thing I got from 8th. Street Music had them on sale for 289. thats 111 dollars less then I paid for mine. The only others I recall selling them were Elderly Ins., Casio Interstate and The Music Zoo, I think they are still all 399. for theres.

I have both a So Cal Speed Shop Stratocaster (hardtail) and an FSR Straight Six Stratocaster, and the Tom DeLonge Stratocaster (have at least tried a few of 'em) has quite a bit more mojo than the So Cal and Straight Six. The mojo of the Tom DeLonge Stratocaster comes from both the Seymour Duncan SH-8 Invader humbucker, a .220K resistor and a 680pf capacitor between the 500K potentiometer and the output jack, so there is some tone shaping going on when turning the volume knob. Both the So Cal Speed Shop Stratocaster and FSR Straight Six Stratocaster have only a 500K potentiometer in control of things.

Personally, from my experience of owning the So Cal and Straight Six Strats, and a fairly indelible memory of the Tom DeLonge Strats I've played, I'd rank the three of them as follows, tone wise:

1 - Tom DeLonge Strat
2 - So Cal Speed Shop Strat
3 - FSR Straight Six Strat

If I ever get a chance, I'd love to add a Tom DeLonge Stratocaster to my collection. This is partly from my memory of their tones, as well as having developed a bit of a fetish for guitars having a single pickup that's in the bridge position. When the Tom DeLonge Strats were still being produced, I never could afford one, then they went out of production (when he switched to Gibson), so I eventually settled for a Squier Bullet Special. Aside from the Fenders (Fender made) ones I've mentioned, I also own an Epiphone Les Paul Jr. 90 and Gibson Les Paul Melody Maker.

There are some folks that wonder why I can't just play one of my 2-pickup or 3-pickup guitars on the bridge pickup alone, and "get the same tones/sound," but I suspect some of them don't have enough experience with a single pickup guitar. For a better A-B, I also own a Gibson Les Paul Special (Faded Double Cut), and for as much as I've tried there are tones from the Epi LP Jr. or Melody Maker that I can't drag out of the LP Special.

To get back to Fender guitars, on my way out of this reply, I also have an Esquire on my "guitars to buy" list. The Esquires have a bit of magic to 'em that the Telecasters lack.

Matt
