I guess I need to finally tell this story...

About 8 weeks ago, I took my less than one year old Am. Dlx. Strat HSS into my favorite music store to have a set up done on it. It is the same store as where I bought it.

When I went to pick it up, it was explained to me that the technician, in trying to repair and buff out a couple of dents/scratches in the finish near the bridge (IT DIDN'T GO IN WITH ANY!!!!!) took the finish out of the sunburst, leaving only what could be described as two large "flares". They offered, among other things, to replace the guitar with a new one. Hiding my anger (I was FUMING!!!), I said o.k, and asked if I could order one with a rosewood fingerboard instead of the maple? I would pay the difference. I had realized months ago that I should have done so in the first place, as I wasn't really enjoying playing on the maple neck. It just had to be rosewood. They said yes.

I wait 5-6 weeks, and just before Thanksgiving the new guitar came in. It is beautiful, it feels and fits beautifully. I don't know how, why or what, but Fender has made this one sound absolutely fantastic, better than the first one. Richer, fuller, deeper, and it seems to have more sustain. This is just with nickel strings (GHS burnished nickles and Gibson Vintage Re Issues) so far.

I am in the process of trying out different strings and such to find that sweet spot between the strings and the magnets. I am about to put D'Addario XL's on next.

This guitar, the new Am Dlx. Strat HSS in Sunburst with a Rosewood fingerboard, just rocks, screams, and comes back asking for more. I must get a tube amp to fully open up it's character. This guitar deserves it.

A shameless plug too. Milano's in Mesa, Az. is a high-quality establishment that specializes in customer service first, gear second. I have never walked out feeling ignored or blown off. They took care of the problem that they created professionally, efficiently, and tactfully. I don't believe anyone (including the original tech) was hurt in the transactions. I sleep better at night with that thought. If you need gear, an amp, a new guitar, service, sheet music or lessons, go there. I am a very satisfied customer and don't mind saying so. I have a guitar that I will spend my days with coaxing every nuance out of . This Fender guitar, that was provided serendipitously to me, is something else.

Hey thats good that they actually gave you a new strat :) and about the sustain it is probably the rosewood fretboard... I have a maple fretboard strat and a rosewood fretboard strat and the rosewood fretboard has a whole lot more sustain... so I guess its because of the rosewood on top of the maple neck but I could be wrong..... :)

I wish I lived near there I would go to the shop and see what kind of a deal I could get for the one with the messed up finish  I doubt it will sit in the store very long if she's a player reguardless of the looks. I see things like that and think project or relic

I wish you could show us pictures of that. I'm having a hard time imagining the damage.
