I get some buzz/rattle on the A string around the 2-4th frets when fretted. I only get it if I pick at medium pressure or more. This can be heard through the amp as well.
I have my string height set to 2mm treble strings and about 2.2mm base, measured at the 17th fret. My neck relief is about .011 at 8th fret.
I checked every fret and positive that it is not touching any of the higher frets. I am stumped as to why this is happening.
The strings are ernie ball 10's that are now about 4 months old.
Any ideas?

Had this issue recently on my new powerhouse ('06 stock) rosewood. even after neck work (truss rod) by my pro, certified by fender, he deduced that there was a flaw in the neck. Fender agreed and is sending a new neck. (hasn't arrived tho, and that was three weeks ago!, so I bought a 1997 maple fretboard deluxe neck off ebay from a reputable seller and put it on. After aligning, relief and intonation, problems all gone, guitar is spot on now).
Good luck.

First off, change the strings. Recheck your setup.

Also sounds like you may have raise your strings just a touch.

also, use the strat set up guidelines on this site to know what your relief should be, as well as action and pickup height. Use a really accurate ruler or feeler gauges (what I prefer). I feel good knowing that I've set the base settings, and then tweaked it from there to my custom set up that is working for me. I think if you want a lower action, you'll have to suffer some buzzing, just depends on how far down that rabbit hole you wanna go. I like to find a happy place in the middle and it seems to work for me.

Sounds like your neck has a bow in it. Tighten your truss rod

As you play, the strings develop a slight "U" shape where they contact the fret. This has the same effect as lowering your action too far, causing fret buzz. That, and messes up the sound of your guitar...

I'm having a problem like this on my Squier Strat with my low E string buzzing when I play it on frets 2-7. The guitar is only about 1 1/2 years old and the frets seem to be in roughly new condition. I use 9 strings with a low action, but it's not THAT low. The problem is only occurring only on this string and only when I play it hard, but of course I play hard all of the time. It's nothing really serious, because I can barely hear it through the amp, but it sure is annoying!
