I disagree. Back in the late 70's, Eddie let Ted Nugent tried out his gear because of Nuge's curiosity of the hype with Eddie's sound. Nuge could not get Eddie's tone with Eddie's gear . Eddie sounds like Eddie regardless of what gear he uses.

I heard that story too...it's totally a myth. Nugent also claimed that Eddie wasn't using any effect, so what about the MXR distortion + and the flanger you can easily hear at the end of eruption?

I agree that Nugent is NOT able to play like Van Halen, he's not able to "extract" from the guitar the artificial harmonics Eddie was is able to squeeze, to use the tremolo bar to create these sounds, but that's not a problem of sound, every time that I heard "The distortion is in your fingers" I laugh...

The only sig i'd consider is one without a signature on it. I couldnt stand having someone elses name on MY guitar. I dont like the aesthetics of either guitar you mention. I'd choose a knopfler and sand the signature off it, if i had to have a signature guitar.

Of course, you could always have Todd Kraus build you a Knopfler and request it unsigned but......of course......sandpaper is less dear.

Now Doc thats a very good idea. A masterbuilt knopfler. Now to make sure i dont fall prey to the problem you had with the neck could i specify the thickness front to back. The idea being a clapton/hotrod soft V with a rosewood board, Essentially the same as your CS order. Could losing the maple to keep the dimensions down weaken the neck? Could that be why yours came slightly too thick?
Saying that i could just choose a maple board ala the direstraits old grey whistle test performance of 78-79. Now that one is worth having the knopfler signature on it.

Scroll down the selection panel and theres a link to Knopfler and Clapton playing together too.
Heres another knopfler gem i hadnt seen until recently

[quote="nikininja"]:

It's my understanding that once in that league you have personal contact with the builder with respect to your specs, so it should be discussed before the build is begun. Your costs are going to be dependent on how far afield you go from design.

My take on the neck per your question is based on my prior assumptions that they used a standard soft-V neck for my guitar and not a Clapton. A '57Hotrod neck with a rosewood board would be a design change I would think you would need to run down with the luthier with respect to your concerns.

I would certain want to have alain's input on this discussion

Well, about 20 years and 60 lbs or so does Mark middle-aged make.
Boy!! Was he skinny!!. That tone. Out of this world 8) Selector switch is at position #1. That's all fingers, likely pickups, and who know what amp settings.

You thought you saw EC?? Just a black Strat.. I can see why you thought so. It's all Dire Straits.

GTG>>>>>>>more later

SRV all the way
Eddie is cool but that striped paint job on his original axe was just nasty. I've never quite gotten over it :D

No less nasty that visual wrecks of the EVH, Gallagher, Beck, Summers, Clapton, Vaughan, Malmsteen Tribute guitars.

The SRV Artist series guitar is but a nod to the original .The "Frankenstein" demonstrated some originality and creativity and has led, ulitmately, to trademark status.

I'd go for the Robben Ford model.

I'd go for either, the Iron Maiden Stratocaster or the Dave Murray 1957 signature!

Up The Irons!!!!

Stevie's guitar playing was about the tone coming from the guitar (and his hands).

In the new issue of Guitar World, Eddie discusses the effort put into his new Wolfgang guitar Fender is producing. He went through nearly 80 sets of pickups and various finishes to find the "right" tone. He used no "toys" and went into a discussion about how important the tone of the guitar is. Eddie's playing wasn't always coming from his toys.

Neither.

If I was to buy a signature guitar, it would be to MY personal specs and certainly not anyone else's. Sure, there may be a few coincidences here and there but that's all they would be. Even if it was to all my personal specs, it really couldn't be called a, "signature guitar" per se, as it would be higly unlikely that I'd sign it.

Hoya!

I do believe the EVH model is incredibly ugly and expensive...

Now, my favourite sig models are

- the OLD Jeff Beck one
- the Jimmie Vaughan
- the Malmsteen (in Sonic Blue :) )
- the Bonnie Raitt one
- the Eric Johnson one
- the Monterey Strat

As for Teles, I dig the Muddy Waters model.

Be funky
