Ouch.
(It's OK, I like sarcasm.)
I haven't heard Stings version of Purple Haze.
Sounds like I don't want to.

Yeah, I've seen Sting wreck Beatles numbers, too. I have a lot more time for Sting as a songwriter and performer than many people here on the Forum. But on the evidence I think he has to stay away from covers. That Little Wing is the only good one I've heard...

Favourite hendrix tunes were written by other people.
Catfish blues/rolling and tumbling from the bbc sessions, by muddy waters.
Driving south also a bbc sessions number, by curtis knight.

Of his own stuff my faves are
Nightbird flying
Drifting
belly button window
stepping stone
remember
3rd stone from the sun
Pretty much in that order.
Anyone hear the horrible hawkwind cover of littlewing. They truely murdered it.

Ooo-er! That is a scary thought - because I can somehow see it happening! I feel queezy...

On the other hand, the first stage I ever stepped on was to cover The Police's Roxanne. We did not do them proud. And Hendrix has had a lot of abuse at my hands over the decades too. So I can't decently criticize other's covers too much...

But on that, presumably everyone here's seen Jimi's cover of Cream's Sunshine of Your Love on the Lulu Show? Now that's how to cover a number!

Just imagine what it must of been like for poor old eric when hendrix got onstage with cream, when no-one had heard him before.

The first stage I performed on was at CBGB's in '78 or '79. No one would shut up about the Police.

I was in a band once in which the drummer - a good drummer - couldn't play the "whap -whap" part in the verses of Elvis' "Jailhouse Rock"! Couldn't do it. And, yes, we played it live a couple of times. Sigh.

I'm gonna go look up Jimi on Lulu now...

Love,
Todd

Did you find it? If not, click here:

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=jE80W5xYbTI

The intro is a gentleman called Whispering Bob Harris on a BBC rock show from the '70s called The Old Grey Whistle Test. I've forgotten where that title came from more times than I can say...

Todd, you've mentioned CBGB's before. Last time Nikininja turned so green with envy we had to scrub him with compound to get it off.

What I want to know, did you ever bump into the young Debbie Harry? That's what would have me turning green with jelousy...

Cheers - C

Got it, thank you. How great is that video? Lulu doesn't seem to understand him at all.
I have a DVD of some Old Grey Wistle Test episodes. It's really cool.

Yes, I played CBGB's, Tracks, The Knitting Factory, Max's Kansas City, R.T.Firefly's. Also I played the Rainbow and Roxy and The Central (now called the Viper Room) in LA.
No, you've never heard of me.
But I had a great time. And I still play in a few bands here in NYC.
No, you haven't heard any of 'em.

As to Debbie Harry. I guess you could call her my "neighbor". She and Chris lived on the corner of the block I live on in midtown Manhattan. Let me know if it's OK to say where on this forum. I don't think they still live there but they lived there in the '80's and '90's. She'd dress all in black (rather normal in NY, you know) and put a black scarf on and black glasses and, poof!, incognito. Yes, it was pretty obvious who she was.
And she was FINE!

PS Do you know who Moondog was? Used to hang out with him a lot as a kid.

Love,
Todd
