New here and beginning guitarist.

My 10 year old began 3 months ago taking lessons. He is using a Stagemaster w/out the floyd rose, tough to keep in tune. He will most likely out grow this in the future as he seems to be bitten by the music bug. I went to Guitar Center yesterday and they have 3 EJ's for 999.99 + 150 off.

I know it is too soon but I won't be able to afford any thing near this good a guitar when he will need it and it is such a great deal. I googled for EJ info and found a website talking about a new version coming out with rosewood fret board and other mods. It sounds like GC is trying to get rid of the current stock to make way for a new one. I think I';; try to work them down a little more and get it. The wife thinks i am crazy, but that is nothing new.

(Added)
I didn't ask a question. So, am I nuts or what?

That is a good price for a new EJ Strat. I know a lot of people say that the EJ signature is one of the nicest production Strats available from Fender.

Yes, yes, yes!

An EJ is over $1800 at the moment, my part of the world. Short of a Custom Shop that's one of the finest Strats to be had, in my very humble opinion.

Get all three and I'll take two of them off your hands for you!

What colors are they?

Cheers - C

That is an amazing deal. I agree with everyone here on their comments on the EJ strat. 1800 for the current EJ for 850? Try all 3 and pick the best one! Do it now!

Also, may I ask which GC this is?

All right you guys. Now that he's let on the location, give the man a shot at at least one. You'll be burning petrol all night to be there when the store opens and it'll cost some of you 3 days pay traveling west/east across the big pond.

Piques my curiosity as to the blowout price. Can't be just a change in the fretboard. Wonder if that's an artist's preference now? Maybe that tone freak has decided this is the better way.

Buyer's gain, no doubt.

Wow that's half price I would have bought all three on the spot then sold the two 1275.00 each :D Umm a free guitar. Maybe the American Strats are 5 bills. (I just don't think so) I called the local GC and asked because I would go and drop 850. in a minute. Well needless to say I am not 850. poorer. Which is good because I have to go to the Redwing for some new toes tomorrow and that will be 275. that I at least still have.

All Guitar centers had'em for $999.99 this past weekend. I have no idea why they didnt advertise it. Maybe you could still nail one.

Well that money was going to be a riding lawn mower for me. I think the son could be learning how to push mow the lawn this spring. Maybe, I can use the guitar as a carrott in front of the mower to get the yard done.

I spent about 2 hours in GC on Saturday looking at all of the prices on the wall. They had a red EJ sitting at the register with 999.99 on the tag and one of those big green dollar bill looking signs in the strings with 150 on it. I asked and they said yeah 850 and they had two more blondes. Went there Sunday while you guys were waiting for me to spill the location. They wouldn't come down any further. Believe me, I tried. No candy with the case but they did restirng it and Ben was very helpful even though they were extremely busy while I was there. The red was gone so I picked the better of the blonde ones.

I know this is a good deal but I will worry it is too much too soon. Thanks for your replies. I'll most likely have more dumber questions in the future.

Well, you have a pretty high end instrument for a factory build Stratocaster, it being an Artist Series guitar. It certainly is not an American Standard because it is built to the specs of an extremely talented, versatile and celebrated guitar player.

I believe that we would all agree that, if the student can manage the neck profile and radius in the learning process, and the guitar is well cared for, by the time he reaches the age of some of us around here, he should have quite a celebrated instrument in his keeping. I certainly would encourage him if at all possible, NEVER to sell it.

Good luck, and keep us posted. Have a great holiday season and a good year.

Doc
