What do you think essential effects are for your strat?

I like playing blues and jazz rock folk fusion and my essential effects "were":
1-Reverb, reverb, reverb.
2-Delay
3-Compressor sustainer.
4-Noise reducer
5-Wah
6-Distortion/overdrive.

The ME-50 has done wonders for me although I have other pedals.

The reason why I started this thread is that I found that I 'am more comfortable just playing on my amp directly, without any pedals at all, just the reverb on my Blues Jr. Is that a function of age ... or is this just me...

Cheers
HS

I swing both ways. The majority of the time its just guitar lead and amp. Sometimes i plug a load of junk in. For gigs the minimum is nothing. The maximum for typical UK gigs is a Eq for mid boost, a drive (either a bad monkey or a T8 depending on mood, A old analogue tokai delay and a wah. When i'm not on a rushed stage i plug a stereo vibratrem in and split it to two amps. One covers low mids and the other does high mids.

I totally agree I hate the OD/Dist on the Me-50 I use my DS-1.. I bought that from london in 1982 or 83-84 I guess and its different than than them modern ones.. its mellower... i think....

My main ones, and I use each of them very subtly ...

Overdrive
Compression
Parametric EQ

But I will also often add a little of the below depending on what I am doing:
Chorus
Delay

The EQ is especially cool because it allows the same amp and effect settings to be used for for each guitar I switch too, with each git only needing its own preset EQ setting (that is, I no longer have amp or effect settings that are dependent on what guitar I am playing -- only the EQ). It makes life really simple.

None are actually "essential."

But some overdrive/distortion can be nice--and I love a bit of reverb.

Chorus, Reverb, Distortion, Delay, Flange, Wah.

If I could only have one effect, it would be reverb. :)

Yes it does .. it gives me a mystic mood
I use it a lot with my flutes as well ....

I almost forgot I never plug in my guitar without a pedal equalizer... regardless of what i have on the rack and mixer.

Yeah a big concert hall. I just like the slight echo when I stop playing. When I don't use it when I stop playing, it sounds abrupt.

It adds depth to your sound.
