What do you think of a 7-String Stratocaster? Would you buy one or stay away from it?

I view 7 string guitars in the same way I view modern rifles. I shoot flintlock muzzleloaders. I don't need more than one shot...I don't need more than 6 strings.

Hoya!

Well it seems that everyone love their Strats with SIX strings only! ;-)

Squier (see? Fender didn't even bother, for they KNEW people wouldn't like it ;-) ) produced a Strat VII during the mid (or late?) 90s.

Here is a link where you can find a picture: http://www.his.com/~sha3u/gear/index.html

I agree that strats are better as six string instruments. It's part of the legacy. Let Ibanez and Schechter have 7 strings.....but if it ain't broke don't fix it. The strat has stood the test of time as being a six string instrument.

I would stay away from a 7 string strat.

I think itd be a waste...strats dont usually have high output and I cant imagine using a 7th string for anything but metal.

But 7 strings have wide necks, too wide for me :-)

And anyway, I am a beginner...

I think a seventh sting would mess up the sound of most songs. You would have to create new ones. Too much of a hassle and I don't think many people would buy a 7 string strat for that reason.[/code]

It would mess me up. I'm not good enough at 6 strings yet. It would be a different story if I was Steve Vai or John Petrucci....but alas I am not.

Questions like this are really unnecessary.

What, is Steve Vai the only guitarist to play a 7-String?
I don't believe so!

Hey Guys,

A 7-String guitar got it roots from Classical Music. This type of guitar has been used in Fusion,Jazz and currently Metal Artists have adapted it into their style of music.

If interested go to www.7string.org to get a bit of background on 7-String Guitars.

I own a Dean 7-String and enjoy playing it very much...and yes I use all 7 strings!
