The new one is one the left. American Standard Ash, Sienna burst, maple neck. I took them "too lite" strings off and replaced with DAddario Super XL 10-46 and tightened up the spring retainer to bring the trem down to the deck. The one on the right is my old Squier.

What's that pickup in the middle position of your Squier?

It looks like it could be old.

My early '70s pickups/covers look like that.

The Squier has Texas Specials in the Neck & Mid, Dimarzio Vintage Blues humbucker in the bridge. The extra white cover I had wouldn't fit the pickup for some reason so I left the aged one on there.

Yeah im curious about the squire locking nut. Do you get trouble winding the low E onto the tuner? Can i see a closeup of that area of the headstock please?

Its one lovely looking squire. The fenders not bad either :D

I installed the Floyd Rose myself. I had to redrill one of the holes to accomodate the slightly wider pivot. Here is a closeup of the Squier headstock. Note that the lock there was original from the factory. I always found it rather odd that they put it there but, this guitar is quite stable and never goes out of tune. And yes, the low E string is a pain to install. I saw a YouTube video a while back of some guy stringing his guitar using the ball end of the strings as shown here, for a sort of poor man's locking tuner so I thought I would give it a try.

Thats a cracking idea, to install the locknut like that. I'm really impressed, ive never seen it before. I've 2 floyds in my toolbox and one guitar dying to have one fitted.

On the ball end in the machine head, i used to do that a lot. To get it to perform anywhere near as well as a locking nut or locking tuners you have to do a few things. The wire around the ball and the wrap needs tinning with solder. You also need to get the trem to float as much as possible when you re-string. so when you get the trem into its usuall possition its as near concert pitch as possible. You need to keep the windings on the machinehead down to a absolute minimum. half to 3/4 a turn at most. Even then you dont get the same stability as a locking nut though.

Nice Guitars. Love the new Fender...very nice. Your Squire is unique. I am impressed with the locking nut on it (not to mention never seen one like it). Is it a Floyd nut or another brand. Not to take anything away from your new baby, I just had questions on the Squire's locking mech at the headstock. Have fun with your New Fender Stratocaster. :)

As far as I know, the original tremolo was made by Schaller but, had Fender stamped on it.
