I dug my owners manual out last night and set my guitar up to fender specs, its been so long i'd forgotten what they were like. Well i wasnt impressed. I thought i liked a high action, it seemed really high to me atleast on the top E. The B less so and the D&G were unchanged and the E&A were too low. The neck relief was a tad too straight at fenders set relief too. Just goes to show the set measurements are not ideal for all, but do provide a good platform to start from.

"If you're not going to take it to a professional then follow the owners' manual."

Pretty much. The owners manual is, like I've said here, and a few others have said... a good starting point. From there, what do you like, and don't like? One guy or 100 guys describing what "they did.." usually doesn't address your specific guitar. It may be yet another start point.
