Paulie,
All MIA Strats had the 50th anniversary logo on the neck plate in 04. The custom shop put out a 50th model that same year that appears to be collectible, and there was a 50th anniversary production MIA that came in sunburst with gold hardware and a tweed case with 50th anniversary on the inside. This is sought after by some collectors as well.

The 04 MIA Strat with the neck plate is just that. A standard MIA Strat with a fancy neckplate. It should cost no more than any other new MIA Strat. Its a great guitar don't get me wrong, but it has no more value than what you are willing to pay for it or someone else is willing to pay for it.

You can find em on Ebay all over the place. If the seller asks too much they just sit there no one bids on them. Check out Windwalker's thread about the guy on Ebay who was trying to sell a Strat for much more than it was worth. It's entertaining.

The 50th anniversary Deluxe Stratocaster is the one that comes in two tone sunburst, a tweed case with the gold interior and the 50th logo on the inside. maple neck, abalone dots, gold locking tuners, gold bridge, single ply thick white pcikguard with the 50th logo engraved in the guard, and a reqally great sound to it. It also has the S-1 switching.

This is the one worth buying, but it hasn't proven collectible yet. It's just a very true and wonderfully made guitar.

Does it have a 50th plate or on the headstock?

Could be,....whats it look like?
Not mentioned so far,..was the 50th AmSe.
Yes,. Fender made a 50th CS,and the 50th Deluxe,and even a MIM 5oth "golden strat",..but the true "value" was the 50th AmSe.
Also,as stated all American made 2004 Strats have the 50th Anniversary backplate.
The 50th AmSe. is like a "modern version" of the 50th CS..neck radius,bridge,frets,..the CS having the vintage,of course,..but the most important thing is,..the 50th AmSe has the same pickups,as the CS (except the CS has period correct cloth wiring),..the 50th AmSe also came with the same case as the 50th Deluxe.
If the one your looking at,has an ASH,two tone sunburst body, single ply p/g,maple neck, and comes with the same case you see in the pic.,...it definitely worth check'in out!

My brother in law has a 50th anniversary eddition strat in 3 tone sunburst with a three ply (I think) pickguard and a H/B in bridge position. It was made in the USA and came from the factory this way. It's a great sounding and playing guitar, but it's the only one like this I have seen or heard of. Does anyone know anything about these?

WRC73,
As stated ALL 2004 Strats have the 50th neckplate,..it was the 50th Anniversary of the Strat,..And 2004 was also the year Fender introduced the SCN's.
Your Brother in laws strat sounds like a 2004 fat strat?

New for 2003 was the American Strat HSS which features a Diamondback humbucker (bridge), two Tex-Mex single-coils (neck/middle) and S-1 switching.

Having read the post I should have thought of that! I just always assumed it was an anniversary eddition, and I think he does as well. Oh well, I'm not telling him. Thanks for the feedback.

I actually thought the S1 was introducted in 2004,along with the SCN's,..I think I just googled 2004 Fat Strat,.And it came back with the info I posted!

Here are two web pages concerning the 50th anniversary strats.

http://namm.harmony-central.com/WNAMM04 ... trats.html

http://www.stratcollector.com/newsdesk/ ... 00111.html

Your dealer may also have an aztec gold relic from the custom shop around 3500$. If the guitar is not at least 2 tone sunburst with maple neck, it's a standard stratocaster built in 2004 and not part of the commemorative series. If the guitar as those two caracteristics, many chance to have the good one. If it's a deluxe, there is a stamp on the pickguard. All those strat also have tolex case.[/url]
