Oh, I agree that SRV was amazing live. You DO know that Jimi wasn't too shabby live, don't you?

It depends . . . Mostly on how wasted he was. But when his live stuff is good it is unbelievable. By the way how many of you have listened to The Jimi Hendrix Experience box set? I have it and it is great! This collection also includes Jimi's unfinished work that was in process when he died. It is just what they recorded in the studio - no stuff that was added later. It is here you can hear Jimi in his prime playing live in the studio to lay down the initial tracks. My personal favorite is the long & fast version of Room Full of Mirrors

We are speaking of 3 guitarists famous for their drug intake. One of the knocks on Clapton is that he was supposed to be better wasted.
In Jimi's case, I don't know of an instance from, oh, 1965 on, when he wasn't alledged to be wasted.
Oddly, I must admit that SRV didn't seem to lose any fire or inventiveness when he cleaned up.
Anybody out there to confirm that?

Love,
Todd

SRV was good and he had his following. But I rather listen to Albert Collins, and Johnny Winter to name just two for Texas Blues. And I have seen them live and they were great as well. Johnny Winter I seen twice. We all have our favorites but me I could not just pick one because they all ooze that vibe.
Listing three players and asking who is the best is going to get so many different answers because we all dont have the same taste and much of it is who is popular at the time which could be for many reasons like a new signature guitar being talked about here on the forum or an album. I have been going to concerts since 1971 and have seen some amazing shows and artist I I would be hard pressed to say which one was the best but I could tel you which ones stunk up the house ( Guns N Roses 2006) I like there show better in the 80's when they used to play at Hammerjacks.

You have to be careful not to look at Guitar Porn too much. You can go blind (from stage lighting, no doubt) or get hair on your palms (makes it hard to play).

Love,
Todd

Hendrix took the electric guitar to uncharted territory.

SRV at a time, he brought back electric blues to mainstream radio while still paying homage to it's African/American roots. His tone, & muscle on the Strat. was awesome.

Clapton has had great pop success.

These are true things. So from those three options, I will pick Hendrix.
