Yep.

I was just thinking; "I never bother to post on these sorts of threads".

...When I glanced at the first page a saw I'd posted there twice. So that cooked my bacon! Well, it was a year and half ago after all...

Cheers - C

You can't compare the three because all of their music is so much different. Yes they all have blues backgrounds, but Hendrix went physcadellic and Clapton went rock. SRV changed blues to a heavy Texas sound. All masters of their own genre. Can't compare apples to oranges to pineapples.... Just a matter of flavor....

I just finished "Skydog. the Duane Allman story" good read but very sad.
I still remember what I was doing when I heard about Duane getting killed,Oct.29,1971...a girl ran into my '68 Chevelle SS about the time I heard the news on the car radio. We spent the rest of the night drinking and listening to Layla. :(
I didn't know much about slide guitar before Duane came along, even though I had heard the old blues players...it just didn't sound like slide but when I saw him it was amazing.

Rebel,

Please flesh out the story for us! A girl ran into your 68 chevelle? (with another car, yes) and you spent the night with her. She must have been really nice looking or your a very forgiving person.

More please, if you will.

I was a little too young to know anything about him. About the time I discovered them Duane and Berry were both gone and the group was in limbo.

Any way I really got into them and then Greg marries Cher. Releases the LP "Allman and Woman" ------Thats what drugs will do to you!

Duane actually played a 61 sunburst rosewood for his session work. I always remember his as a LP and SG player but for his session work it was Stratocaster.

All are uniquely different. IMO, SRV and Jimi were the closest, playing 2 different styles of music. Cream Clapton, was similar, but evolved as the years went on. To me it is like asking, who was better, the Beatles or the Stones...it is a personal preference.

Both Clapton and SRV have acknowledged that Jimi was the greatest rock guitarist bar none.As great as they both are/were Jimi took the guitar from the backline and brought it front and center as the prime instrument of the rock band.Jimi's inovative and soulful technique was obviously a huge influence on ASRV's playing style and Stevie freely admitted to spending hours studying and emulating Jimi's technique(quite successfully I may add)but I doubt that Stevie's style would have developed to the point that it did without Jimi's influence.Clapton acknowledges that he had the most profound love and respect for Jimi as a person and guitarist and in his own humble way concedes to this day that Jimi as the best without a doubt. So with the endorsement of these two fretboard wizards I concur that Jimi was the best.
