My vote goes with SRV. I've never been a big Hendrix fan and I've always preferred his tunes when Stevie played them. I'll give Hendrix credit where credit is due, but I'm not a big fan. I have over 300 cd's here and only 1 Hendrix, a greatest hits collection.....and I never listen to it. Clapton, well, he's Clapton. Great guitarist but one of the most boring people to watch on stage. I really enjoy his acoustic stuff like Unplugged and that DVD from LA in 2001, but other than that I'd probably fall asleep watching him.

Over the years I've come to believe that there is no, "better" or "best." There's just different. Each of these players has (had) a different style than the other. They also learned from each other. I think they are all great, but I'm more of a Clapton fan than the rest.

I spent days with my father discussing this subject. We listened and studied each one's abilities and still haven't been able to decide. So I am opening this poll to see which gets the best review. Thanks for your support, and GOD BLESS!!!

R.I.P: Stevie Ray Vaughn and Jimi Hendrix!!!!

THANK YOU FENDER, YOU ROCK!!!PEACE.

p.s. you can mark more than one if you think they tie.

Since Hendrix had a huge influence on SRV and Clapton was still developing when Hendrix was at his height of musical genius, it has to go to Hendrix... Too many differences in style between the three to really decide who is best....

SRV is the only one who excites me when I watch or listen to him. I feel like Clapton peeked a long time ago and has been stale for a while.

Agreed. At that level of play there is no "better". That's like saying Yngwie is better than Gilbert. C'mon, they are both shred machines that could easily copy each other. I prefer Gilbert though.

So, for the 3 listed in this thread, SRV is the man.

just my opinion though

Where is Beck? Now if you add Beck my vote would be the same-I could not vote, as depending on my mood these are my icons who I enjoy listening to over and over and have all topped a guitar poll numerous times. Hall of Famers all.

I'd rather listen to someone play great guitar than be distracted by them jumping about like a monkey with their tail of fire.

I've seen both Segovia and John Williams in concert. They just sat and played while bringing tears to your eyes with the beauty of their playing.

I must say I prefer Hendrix out of those 3 for various reasons, style of music, subtlety, technique etc but they all put a lot of effort into it to be fair.

However, aside from these 3, my favorite to listen to in terms of guitar playing would have to be Frank Zappa, leaving others the shadow of his shadow at times

I can't vote on this one...Yes they are all great players and yes there style is similar.. But yet all three are vastly different ...The only way to say which one is better is for all three to play the exact same thing and go from there..

If you are talking about a Blues man i would say..
Stevie Ray Vaughan

If you are talking about guitar knowledge and ability to play several styles of music it would be......Eric Clapton

If you are talking about an innovator and someone who brought new styles and sound into guitar playing it would be...Jimi Hendrix

If you are talking about Blues, innovation, and the ability to play multiple styles, including jazz to classical modes, there is only one:

JEFF BECK

He is still innovative to this day. And he is almost as old as Hendrix would have been if he were still alive.

I love Hendrix and I would have voted for him because he sold as many Strats
as Beck. SRV, and Clapton combined. But Beck is a living legend and a vegan.
