Ha! I'm not the only one that thinks Eric Clapton looks like Hugh Laurie!

When Clapton was referred to as "God" he was doing it on a Paul, SG, Firebird, ES335 etc.. - not a Strat, but I couldn't agree with you more about old slow-hand, especially the Bluesbreakers Beano recordings! They are surely among the very best in blues guitar ever to grace the history soulful playing - definitely transcendental!

yeah...I too, think that Clapton was at his best during his Gibson era...I just voted for Clapton because he's my favorite-as a guitar player, not a strat player.

all three of them are masters ... but I wonder if you put jimi or stevie ray on a stage with any musician of any musical genre if they could blend to that genre and be a part of the music rather than sound like their distinct style, I'm sure they can, but I believe Clapton is a much more diverse and equally skilled if not more skilled guitarist.....there is a reason he's nicknamed the musician's musician

I don't think there will ever be a definite answer to this question.

They were all amazing at what they did, and people all have different opinions.

All Three are great and I went through a Phase for each of them, but It's SRV for me. I liked every sound I've ever heard him make. Hendrix could get a little spacey at times and I didn't really like Claptons Early '80s period. August and Behind the Mask, didn't do much for me.

Has to be Jimi he did things that before him were never done. Not to take away from SRV or Clapton both great for there contributions. This is just my thoughts can nver be really sure though. Can't image music with out any of the three .

I never cease to marvel at these kinds of debates comparing different kinds of apples.

Model of guitar notwithstanding, sit down with your dad and run through couple of the late Danny Gatton CD's. He's been an inspiration to some of the best. There's a place to begin.

Hendrix always has and always will be my personal guitar god. In 1967 at the tender age of 12 years old I was forever capitavated by James Marshall Hendrix. He personally put Strats on the map forever. Fender's sales went through the roof after Jimi exploded onto the scene at the Monterrey Pop Festival. He singlehandedly changed the way rock guitar was played. More so than anyone before him. I am a big fan of SRV and Clapton but they pale in comparison to the master himself, IMHO.

I would say SRV, although he would disagree. I like all of them.

Both Stevie and Eric would say Jimi.
I like them all but don't like this kind of polls.

I have seen Clapton in concert about 10 times.

Now, if you have listened to much SRV and Jimi, then you know that SRV copied a lot of Jimi's stuff. He played his songs. He copied his styles. SRV idolized Jimi.

So, to me...If Clapton defers to SRV and SRV worshiped Jimi....Jimi must be the King.

I couldn't help but throw this in for the sake of continuing the loop :P .. when but what about when chas chandler wanted jimi to go to england to start the experience and Jimi said the only way he'd go was if he could jam with the legend Eric Clapton...Jimi looked up to Eric as well.....its like saying what color apple looks better....red or green:wink:

btw...red

See, Phop.....we CAN agree....old timer.....

Im jealous, actually. I have a juvinile goal to see as many rock legends as possible before they die or whatever. I was in short-pants when Jimi died after all.

But of the others from that vintage (that were around when I was an active concert goer), I've yet to see Jimmy Page.

I'll say this....you wont see a better show than one of those old timer rockers. They know how to play a concert. You dont even have to like the music.

Of course we can agree! But what is with the P-hop? My first letter is F as in fhopkins or Hop or Hoppie and other variations. Is it a reference to Professor Hopkins! I can live with that! 8)

I like all three, but Clapton's style of playing is closest to what I am trying to achieve on guitar.

With that said, I was pricing old Uni-Vibes on eBay this evening.
