Depends what you're looking for. Highway 1 is American, Deluxe Players Mexican. WHich as a rule, but not always, means finished product on American are supposed to be better. Highway 1 has much bigger frets (if thats what you want) THe pickups on HW1 are set to have a little more modern sound to them, and supposed to have less of that strat sound, more punch. The Deluxe players in my opinion has better/more features. It has American made Vintage Noiseless pickups, and a really cool feature that allows you to play the bridge and neck pickup together without having the middle active (which will give you more of the Tele snap to it, really nice.) It also has a 12 inch radius fretboard, allowing you to play deeper bends without fretting out. I personally (and Im an American Strat guy) if I had my choice would get the Deluxe Players, because of the features I mentioned above. But allot of people swear by the Highway 1. The HW1 also doesnt have the glossy finish on the body. I personally like the gloss, but that satin finish on the HW1 is supposed to let it breath more, giving it more "sound", plus if you're into the look, it will break in allot sooner, giving it that Relic, SRV vibe. My suggestion is, if you have access to a store that has them, play them. I'd go one day and play one for an hour or so, then go another one and play the other. It will give you a better chance to let what you've experienced to sink in, more than if you grabbed one and played it for a little while, than grabbed the other one. It will be easier to compare. Whatever you get, I'm sure you'll love it. Oh, and although its easier said than done, try not to let the price make the decision for you. If that is your motivating factor, a month or two down the line you run the risk of regret.

"Better" is such an opinionated question and you will probably get recommendations for both.

I owned one of each in '05, I got rid of the Deluxe Players Strat and modified the (pre-upgraded) Hwy1 with CS69's and hardware changes. I didn't like the "feel" of the Deluxe Players, but to each their own.

I'm not an expert, but it seems like the closer comparison would be the Deluxe Roadhouse to a Highway 1. They seem more similar in terms of the type of sound.

I didn't like the Player's Strat as much as the Highway 1. I haven't gotten the chance to try a Roadhouse, though - I'd like to.

Hello JimiVanPage,

That would be a dead heat tie for me.
Two nice guitar both possesing some
unique features. Go play 'm both and see
which one you like better.

Buying a tele isn't any easier,
do you homework and pull the trigger.

Cheers.
