I think that is a chicken sandwich. I wonder if she is "MIJ" or "CIJ"?

Her fingerboard radius is pretty flat though.

I've heard pretty things, though I haven't actually played one myself. I gather there is somewhat of a cult following to them. Would you describe them as between a MIM and American? More to the Mexican? More to the American? Give me your input.
My friend got a MIJ Jaguar. It sounds pretty good

I've played a few of the Japanese reissues and they really are spectacular instruments. Great deals too.

I got a CIJ 72 reissue Thinline recently because I'd read from a number of sources that CIJ was of a somewhat higher quality than MIM. Since I already had an MIM, I've had a chance to compare them side by side and play one after the other.

- construction quality on the MIM is reasonable but the CIJ is very refined. For example, the wood grain where the bottom is attached to the body on the CIJ is very closely matched and the seam is nearly invisible. There's obviously less attention to detail on the MIM. Similarly, the neck and fret work show a higher attention to detail. Overall, the construction quailty is clear and goes to the CIJ on every point.

- there's a slight difference in tone, but that may be due to a variety of factors. The MIM has a slightly deeper, bluesy sound while the CIJ is a bit crisper and more "Tele-like." This may just be the only two samples I have, not an inherent difference or it could be the wood.

- Playability - both about the same to my touch.

The CIJ has a clear edge over the MIM in terms of overall construction and attention to detail.

I have a 1984 mij squire strat ,I bought new in march of '84
I have'nt played any other mij guitars.
but I bought a 1994 mia 40th anniversary strat from a friend,
and the mij squire blows that guitar away, the way it plays and feels
so in my experience the mij is better than my mia.

I have one that I got in about 1988 and I love it. If I could find another I would get one.

I have an '86 MIJ Contemporary Strat. I love it, but it was my only guitar for many years so there's lots of fretwear. It doesn't get out of the case much anymore.

Sounds like it's time for a fret job.

A leveling/recrowning or perhaps a complete fret replacement.

I've never had to do one before. Would anyone know the approx cost of a complete refret job?

There was a thread a while back that had this topic on it. It seemed to range from 150-350 dollars. I would day that you should take it to a authorized repair shop and get an estimate. When I had mine done it cost me something like $200, I think, it was a while ago.

They are along the lines of the current MIMs: Very well made with less inherent detail and just like the MIMs and the MIAs, you will get a dud here and there. Nowadays, there is an aura around the MIJs because they are older.
