Hi all,

Now that I own a CS strat and see what a strat should be I'm on a mission to upgrade my MIM 50's strat and maybe even my SRV strat.

My CS '65's tuners are pretty cool in the way that they are really like vintage tuners. I read somewhere that if you use the entire length of the hi-E and B string you'll bypass the string tree. I tried this method with both my SRV and MIM '50s strats and never achieved it. But with my '65 Re I can, it's awesome!

So what I noticed is that the post on the '65 where the string goes in is a lil shorter than the SRV (which are Fender brand vin-tuners), and MIM '50s strats.

So, my question, do any of you know where and what company makes truly 100% vintage tuners like what's on the CS reissues?

Thanks in advance.

Try half way down this page. These are pretty authentic - and very reasonably priced:

Do you know of any vintage style drop in repleacements? I'd be interested in both MIM strat and MIM tele. GFS has some that look really nice for cheap, only problem is the bushings are too small, and the conversion bushings needs the holes slightly enlarged.

Vintage tuners fit 11/32 inch holes in the peghead, modern tuners fit 13/32 holes, usually called 10 mm. If you want to fit vintage tuners in 10 mm holes you have to have the conversion bushings; simple as that.

Incidentally, I'm pretty sure the tuner in the picture on that page doesn't have a split top to the shaft, regardless of what the text says. There's many subtle variations on "vintage style" tuners. Here's 47 varieties, for example - and this ain't all that's available:
