Looking at used American Deluxes, Im contemplating getting a H/S/S, though not sure. My question though is I know ones with humbuckers come with the LSR roller nut instead of the regular one that came on my SSS. I dont use the tremolo, so having ball bearings in the nut really arent necessary to me. Is there a tone difference between the two? I know the less friction the better as far as tuning stability, but does less contact mean less resonance? And are you able to take out the LSR and put in a normal nut?? I know going from the normal to LSR requires removing wood

I do own the American Deluxe HSS w/LSR and it plays fine as far as i'm concern be it tuning stability and sustain.....as i have a bad habit of playing hard with the trem :) .....as to your question on taking out the LSR in putting in a reg nut i believe it impossible....but its possible vice versa like you mention.

My Deluxe has the LSR nut and I can't imagine swapping it out. Never have tuning issues and the sustain mirrors the sustain on my American Standard. Some don't think it's in line with what a true Strat should look like, but in my case I'm happy with it. 8) Mike

Yeah, I know they're supposed to add tuning stability. Though I dont use the tremolo, I do do allot of 2, 2 1/2 step bends. I asked my luthier when I first bought my AM DLx if I should have one put in because of it when I brought it to him to do a set-up (and block the tremolo). He said if I really wanted to, he'd do it, but he didnt like cutting wood when he doesn't have to (got to love a tech who'll tell you like it is instead of just saying sure to make more $). He said if I was a dive bomber, it would probably be worth it. He didnt mention any drawbacks to the LSR besides having to retro-fit it. I thought the were cool, and probably have better longengevity than bone-nuts, but I know how much small tweaks can affect over all sound, so just wanted to ask. Im thinking of maybe H/S/S this time because although I simply love the tone of SCN's, I didnt use the bridge pup too much (I use neck 80% of the time,(I might have said another #before, who know, I never timed myself) because I found it just to bright and pingy for my liking, so I was kicking around the idea for dropping a Hotrails or something, but I'd read the humbucker in the HSS strats, although aren't single coil, still somehow maintain a strat like sound
