I have this stratocaster on my hands - looks pretty standard. Candy Apple red (kinda faded red) single ply pickguard, Phat C-neck, aged looking maple neck and fretboard, vintage looking pu covers and knobs.
"Special Edition" it says on the back of the headstock.
No. on neckplate: 3235342 - weird, just 7 digits with no letters.
Nothing indicating where it's from.
NO idea whatsoever how old it is either - it has a few distinkt dings, doesn't look like it's been played a lot.
Seller thinks it's some Tex Mex model - that's been made in the US, sent to Mexico for the paint job, returned for assembly and sold as neither US nor MEX Strat.
This guitar was really fantastic to the feel, and I was amazed that it felt just as well put together as my Custom Shop Strat. I feel an urge to buy it - but I hope that there's a story to find about this type of Fender Stratocaster before I go make a big mistake...?

Hi Stratowulf, welcome to the Forum.

If it feels good then how can it be a mistake? Ultimately, no matter if it was made from cardboard by blind Mongolians in a shoe factory if it looks good, feels good and sounds good - it's good!

Your fella's theory about its American-Mexican build could be right or wrong. But why does think that?

Anyway. We need pix, please!

Cheers - C

I seem to remember that way back, the Strats, Teles, Jazzmasters, and Precisions, when made in the original plant in California did not have a letter and the serial numbers were all on the neck plates.

You may be looking at a real authentic vintage guitar. I would suggest contacting customer relations and asking them about the serial number.

Pictures would help for sure.

Sorry - Can't post pics, but I found out that it was a real Mex Strat - serial number was hidden under a sticker from the used music gear store, and when I checked the number it revealed itself as a genuine mexico stratocaster. Vintage looking pu covers and knobs, so pretty nice to look at, but not as fun to own as if it had been something special. I think I'll just stick with my Custom Shop

But thnx a bunch to you who read my post and took your time thinking about it :P

/regards
