I thought it was a anniversary model? If their not future collecters pieces then what chance does anything else have? All them expensive customshops aren't going to become collecters pieces, after all they make them every year.
What were the stock pickups?
He's avin a giraffe :?

He threw the pickups away

its a cheap partsocaster with a duff serial no' and a over grandiose description. He never had the pickups, even a moron would sell em for $20 let alone their true value. I've a 2003 catalogue i'm about to check

Hopkins hypothesis could be backed checked if the COA supplied with the guitar could be tracked.

I forwarded the response I received to Brad. Let's see what the company comes up with. The essentials here are: they buyer will not be considered 'first of record' thus voiding any warrantee on the instrument.'
Also: 'Beware of copies'. How these sellers obtain product is another matter yet undisclosed. Likely by misrepresentation or other nefarious methods.

Incidental information on Wikipedia contained in their piece on the EC Stratocaster state that between 1998 and 2003 the stock pickups on the American Deluxe were the "noiseless" which ultimately found their way to the Clapton.

Wait a minute, I may have gotten the wrong information, but. I had read that the contoured neck heel was introduced on the American Deluxe strats in 2002, if that's true, than either this guitar isn't a 2003, or it's not an American Deluxe, because from looking at the photo's, it doesnt have that feature?????

And for that matter it has black dot markers, not abalone. Wrong tuners, heel and dots. Who knows what the pickups really are? And the bit about the frets is just weird... In short, he's put a moto pickguard on a Sienna Sunburst American Series and is calling at a Deluxe.

How much should a legit 2003-4 Am Series be selling for in dollars these days? I want my information correct for when the gentleman cares to fall into communication with me - and for when I report him to Ebay...

Cheers - C

I knew it wasnt an AM Dlx. I was pretty sure that color was only offered on an Am Std, and the whole neck thing is bull. The necks on AM Dlx.s are about as perfect as you'll get on a production (non CS) guitar. He just looked up what he could say was done to it to try to pump up the price. One of the best features on an Am Dlx is the neck heel, and why would you take off better tuners for less ones (the Fender/Schaller are great, but locking is better). What a scumbag, no wonder he got all defensive with my question. This is why I've been making such a big deal about Ebay lately. Looking for a replacement axe brought all this to my attention. So he's selling an Am. Std, that with the extra $ for the color, was $1100 new, added $250pickups (maybe) and had the frets plek'd (yeah right, I want to see proof of that). Then he tells my i dont know anyting about Strats?? HE should learn more if he wants to defend his ludicrous sales. Like I said before, if he conducts business like this I FIND IT DIFFICULT TO BELIEVE HE HAS AN HONEST 100% RATING.

I believe the Locking tuners have been there for a while, maybe since it was a Strat Plus?? I may be wrong, but I know i've looked at a couple 99's, and they were on it. I believe the S1 came out in 2004

If it's a true Am. Dlx, it should have a serial number for the year that begins DZ3, if its Z3, it's going to be an American Standard, or maybe a Highway1

I may be making this into something more than it really is, but its just indicative of a larger problem on the site...

I have an S-1 on my HSS 2005 Am Series - but I don't know when that feature came in. If he called this a modded 2003 Am Series then there would be nothing to question except the price - and legally speaking he's allowed to put any crazy price he likes on it. To describe it as a Deluxe don't seem right - but you others know more about the specs of that instrument from four or five years ago than I do.

The fella just contacted me with a question about location in response to mine about shipping. Perfectly polite so far so nothing juicy to post here yet - how frustrating!

Still, I love that his Ebay page is headed "New Discounted Holiday Price". How generous!

Anyway, still like to know what people feel the right price for a 2003 Am Series would be?

Cheers - C

In good condition, I'd think a fair price would be between $800-$1000. That takes into account that it doesnt have the S1 switching, which like most things, when a new model comes out with an improvement, it usually makes something dip down a little less than normal yearly depreciation, because more people are going to want that feature, it may be a little different on Fender and Gibson guitars, but I know I'd rather have the S1, but I know a lot of guys who actually had their techs remove it ( I don't know why, I'd just keep it in and not use it).
Also, it seems that used guitars have started going down in value over the last couple months due to the fact that they're not getting sold because of the loss of disposable income people have due to job loss, cost of living increase, and the holidays. While this is bad for the owners of the guitars trying to get sold, it's good for us trying to buy.

This guy obviously either doesnt know Fenders, or guitars in general. The stock pickups on American Deluxes are SCN noiseless, which if you were to buy them separately are around $190, used (especially just removed) around $120-$140, so why would he "throw them out"? But in this case they were probably Vintage Noiseless because its not an Am Dlx. But those are still probably $100-$120 used, so why would he throw those out.

Having had some more communication with him I have to say I think the chappie genuinely is mentally unbalanced, based on the abrupt hysterical turn he has taken with me asking shipping costs. Uncontrollable temper outbursts at polite questions suggest someone having all kinds of difficulties coping with life.

Hopefully he has care at hand, but there's not much we can do about that here in e-space.

As such I feel I don't want to bait him further: it starts to reflect badly upon us rather than him. Though if I receive any more abuse from him I shall have to pursue it with Ebay, if only for the sake of others out there.

But I think as the Doc says it is time to let this one lie and move on.

Far as Ebay is concerned, the lesson is as always - buyer beware!

Cheers - C
