I like both 6 and 2 point. Tuning problems on trems come down to one thing only, a poorly setup trem or worn out posts. On your floyd'd guitar i strongly suggest you loosen the strings pull the trem back off the posts and turn them 1/4-1/2 a turn depending on how bad they are worn. If their really bad then the knife edges on the trem will be too. Its your call on how to sort that. I usually file the roughed up area's down, lightly. I've a old £200 jackson in the attic that i could get now and find it intune despite not being used for a year. Simply because i've paid a lot of attention to the above points. The point on posts being in good order carries over to the strat 2 point and to a lesser degree 6point too.
The main difference i noticed between the 2 point and 6 point is the feel of the unit. Neither outperforms the other they are just different. The 2 point is smoother and easier to work also as Cuthbert said the saddles dont eat your hands. The 6 point provides a more trebley response and is stiffer due to the tension of the springs used on it.

see
ive played on strats that have the two point american standard and i like the feel of that one more and i can dive bomb deeper than i can with the vintage and i get a little more control with the american, and palm muting is way easier too

so i want to put the standard two point trem in place of the vintage six point
but im not sure if its possible because of the hole sizes

so im trying to find out if anyone knows for certain if it is or isnt possible to switch out the vintage tremolo with a standard tremolo
or am i just stuck with what ive got and should just buy new string saddles and set up the trem ive got to pivot on the outer two screws???

im also curious if the sperzel locking tuners are better or worse than the fender/schaller locking tuners in terms of sustain, tone and tuning stability

and im curious if there would be any benefit in replacing the tremolo block with any different type or size of block for increased sustain and tone???

I have both too..... I like both they are different but If i had to choose to only keep one I would keep the american 2 point bridge I think it floats nicer and it has a wider vibrato range :)

concerning the locking tuners: I have Sperzels on my '91 ultra, and they've always been fine. I can't remember whether Fender was using Sperzels exclusively at the time or if they just put them on their top models; if they were just putting them on deluxes and ultras it could have been more for appearances (chrome everything on those guitars -- no brushed steel).

A quick look around the internets tells me that Schallers have a higher gear ratio (16:1 vs 12:1 for Sperzel) and are marginally heavier, so are more likely to affect tone/sustain. Schallers and Sperzels don't necessarily mount in exactly the same way, so check to see if you need to do any drilling first.

yeah, i already bought the sperzels and tried to mount them, i have to do drilling so im taking it to a luthier but before i did it i wanted to know if the fender/schallers work better for sustain or tone

i know fender uses the schallers on alot of the american deluxe models, so thats why i was curious
so using the fender schallers would be better for tone and sustain??

im still trying to find out if a can take out my vintage bridge and drop in a standard bridge
and if getting a larger steel block for whichever bridge i get would be better for tone and sustain

I can not tell any difference in tone but I can in feel. I like them both but I prefer the two point. I think they both hold tune good when set up proper but that two point returns better and has a better feel.
