The classic player costs 100 bucks more than the 50's strat. Only difference I see is perhaps the pickups and the wood, but I would imagine that the cost wouldn't be that much more. I know both are made in Mexico and want it for the v shaped neck. I know the 50's have a nice tinted maple neck. IS it worth the extra 100 for the classic player? I like to play some vintage stuff, but can get dirty easy when gain is cranked for harder rock.

It's worth it in my opinion. It also has the two point tremelo (with vintage style saddles) and locking (but vintage looking) tuners.
Also the 9.5 neck radius instead of the 7.25
and like you said, better pickups.

They look very much the same but the stealthy upgrades are well worth the extra $100.

Thanks! I'm sure I'm going to be happier with the classic player. I heard those had just started to get discontinued now. What a shame!

Wow - I really doubt it. (As I've mentioned before) I was chatting to the owner of an old and famous guitar shop and he told me he sells way more Classic Players than any other model of Fender, Mexican or American, including Standards. Which surprised me, but there you are.

I think it is a very nice guitar and excellent value for the price. I just don't really see why they include the '50s and '60s tags in the names. OK, low output pickups and a single ply pickguard on the '50s. But really, those are modern guitars with a few vintage tweaks, not the other way around.

Just my little niggle with the name; but nothing against the instruments themselves. Very cool!

Cheers - C

Yes, I suppose its a 50's "style" hence the tag and not a re-issue of some sort. I find Fenders easier to have as a collection rather than Gibson. I'm just really happy with Fender's price points for these lovely guitars, if you want a 50 or a 60's "vintage style" model. Thanks for the info!
