Your guitar was made at the
Fullerton Plant (Fender - CBS Era), USA
in the Year(s): 1974

Can you post pictures of it here? I really wanna see that axe!! :)

Me too! I wonder what red it is?

If it's Fiesta Red with gold hardware then in some of our minds that shouts the name Hank Marvin. But I have no idea if Fender would have made a Marvin sig in 1974. Did they do that kind of thing back then? Perhaps it's a DIY job done with that look in mind.

Cheers - C

What other markings are on the guitar (front and back of headstock and neck plate)?

While that serial number is consistent with the 1974 time frame (coincidentally, my 1974 strat has a serial number that begins with four 5's!), the "signed paper" sounds like a Certificate of Authenticity. Unfortunately, Fender did not give out Certificates of Authenticity back in 1974.

So I would ask you, is this a Custom Shop guitar? What does the "signed paper" say and who signed it?

There are various ways to "date" a guitar. There are date codes on the bottom of the volume and tone pots. There could be dates stamped on the base of the neck, in the neck pocket, and/or on the bottom of the pickguard. Unfortunately, you will have to be handy with a screwdriver to check out those places (and you may have to be a bit brave to take your guitar apart).

Also during 1974 they stoped using the staggered pole pieces on guitars later in the year.
