Hi, quick question. I have a great 1965 Strat NOS purchased in 2006 (Custom Shop). this may be a stupid question but is it a 7.25 radius? or could it be a 9.5?? It plays great and does not "fret out" on high bends.

the reason is i recently tried a Suhr with a 9-12 compound radius and really hated it in spite of all the great word on the brand. I tried to raise the saddles but no go.

anyway - i plan to stay with Fender in the future.. i need to get clear on the radius issue

Thanks alot for your help

Andy :D

It should be a 7 1/4" I don't like compound radius necks either. Its funny because Warmoth necks you have to pay extra NOT to get compound radius

Warmoth has that machine that makes compund radius, they point a lot on this, like Jackson, therefore for them it is unusual to have straight radius.

Anyway, the '65 is probably the best year IMO, the radius of the fretboard is overlooked, even on my '57 I can get low action and I bend 2 steps and sometimes 2 and half, for instance, from C, 13th fret, second string, to Eflat is possible with a action less than 2 mm, it's more important to have a straight neck and good crowned frets.

could you explain that more - why is the '65 better for bending when the radius is still 7.25?
thanks

I could never do 7.25s, I always end up bunching up and fretting out. They're great for chords though.
