I don't know if I asked this question all ready, does anyone have any experience with pignoses?? I should be able to replace my strat in a couple months, and i want a small amp that I can travel with. I played one before, but it was like 18 years ago, when I wanted to sound like Megadeth, so I didnt like it. Now its blues, mostly clean, with overdrive once in a while. I heard these are great practice amps, and you can get a good tone with little volume, any remarks....?

haven't played one in 20 odd years, when funnily enough all i was interested in was sounding like a tank chomping over the arctic tundra. From what i remember of em they are great practice amps, whether their still as good though, i dont know.

Amazing how age and time refines your tastes isnt it? I'm only 32, and I cant believe I've become it, but now Im that guy who says "all the music out now is crap". But it is, at least there was some originality before, now MTV's videos have been replaced with shallow, over privileged kids who only worry about some crappy clothing line. I remember a few years ago reading Ashley Simpson's album went to number one. I remember thinking, they have to run her vocals through a thousand digital processors to make it sound any good, and its still horrible.

I've got a pignose "legendary" 7-100.
I like it alot (for what it is) I use it as a travel amp and to noodle around in my living room.
No it's not a monster but you can have alot of fun with it.

what price range are you trying to stay in, and is reverb important to you? Also, what are you using as a practice amp now and why do you want to change? I like the Pig Nose a friend of mine has, and he sounds good through it, but I can't get it to work for me, personally.

I used to use one years ago, had a lot of fun with it too. I replaced the OEM speaker with a Jensen co-axial car speaker. Man, it sounded great! I even gigged a couple of times with just the Pignose through the P.A. I found that the biggest drawback with the Pignoses were, if you get one that operates on the rechargeable battery, after the battery finally peters out and can no longer be recharged, the cost of a new battery of their's is close to the price of the whole amp. Without being able to use the battery pack takes a great deal of portability away as you then have to find an outlet to plug it into. (We used to sit on top of our cars and jam in parking lots.) And from my research, I couldn't find any other brand's compatible rechargeable battery for less. It's like a computer printer where the printer is good yet cheap enough but the cost of replacement ink is where they get you in the end (double entendre intended).

I used to own one back in the 80's. It is, what it is - a small, cheap amp that sounds decent for what it is.

For practice - yeah it's great.

Great tone? Well, compared to what? I wouldn't go out of my way to find one for a studio session. But if I want a tone decent enough to practice with - sure.

They are good to practice on on the road. Not the best, but one of the smaller ones. You are not going to sound like a you're playing through a Marshall stack, but you'll be able to hear yourself play. I've seen Vox Amp plugs that are smaller and uses headphones for speakers. They plug right into your guitar. Google it for more info.
