I have a 94 strat plus that is ear piercing bright after a Dimarzio stacked humbucker single coil upgrade. The upgrade includes a virtual vintage 54 pro in the neck, yjm in the middle, and a virtual solo in the bridge. These pups are not as hot as regular humbuckers in fact the YJM is weaker than a lot of traditional single coils. The guitar is useable when I throw a rosewood neck on it though.

Could the TBX tone control be making the sound shrill because of the new stacked humbuckers? Possilby becasue of the higher ohm tbx pot? If I replace it with a 250 ohm pot will it help?

The tone that I was reaching for with this guitar was a Richie Kotzen and or Eric Johnson tone.

Any help or general comments are much appreciated. THanks

Why didn't you leave the Lace sensors?

Secondary, the VV Solo is VERY loud, the loudest single coil I've ever heard, approximately twice the signal you get from the YJM, therefore it sounds strange to me.

For the YJM, it's very dark sounding, therefore I'm surprised to hear that you find it too bright.

I have the YJM in the middle and it does sound quite fine. Maybe I should add another and keep the v54 pro in.

The gold lace sensors did sound great too! I am basically searching for the unreachable tone that continues to baffle us all. Thanks for you reply Brother

I used to have a HS3,a HS2 and a YJM in my strat, then I "migrate" to VV...heavy blues and solo. I'm still waiting for the second heavy blues, therefore I still have the HS-2 in the middle like you, it doesn't work well with the others, because of the different output.

I suggest, like Master Miyagi of Karate kid, to choose the right or the left side of the sidewalk: either all HS series, either VVs.

Oh, BTW, the Solo Pro requires 500kohm pots, did you change the circuit?

What kind of amplifier are you using?

Try using the neck pickup and adjust the amp to get a good, less bright tone out of it.

I'd ditch the TBX in favour of a regular 250k tonepot. I had a very similar problem with my vintage noiseless pickups i lowered the volume pot to a 250k too. It helped a lot but i finaly installed a midboost that calmed em down no end.
