Orvilleowner, how do you find the weight of your doubleneck? I've got the beginings of a idea for a supportframe. Is there much need for them?

I believe it weighs about 13 pounds; not too bad really.

Here I go, quoting myself. Correcting myself, actually, as I just weighed my doubleneck with the help of the friendly folks at Music Machine. It weighed 12.55 pounds. That's about a pound and a half less than the Epiphone SG Doubleneck they have at the store.

I don't know what this weighs:

Don't let Rick Neilson ever fool us! He's a great collector of vintage guitars and has nothing but respect for tradition. The goofy side of him that has a 5 neck guitar and all the wild crap he does with Hamer, etc is just him liking people to go " Ahhh....and WOW....how cool is THAT?!"

He laughs at himself harder than anyone, and secretly thinks it's hilarious that we like the crazy stuff he does! He's actually a great guy, with a deep love of 1950's Stratocasters. I like Rick a lot; he's articulate and smart, and understands marketing and money as well as anyone.

+1 on that! It's great to inject a little humor into the music.

I like the NOS concept. I would not pay extra for the damaged look though. Who cares about Yngwie's teeth marks:)

It's too bad Fender didn't have Yngwie come into the shop to bite the 100 copies of his "Duck."

(It is Duck that is the new $12K collectible, isn't it?)

I saw a deluxe on ebay uk that some blokes missus had smashed up. She should apply for a job with FMIC

I saw that as well.. I have one that I bought a couple of weeks ago with a 72 neck stamped...WRONG decals which I then started looking hard at the headstock and it appears to have had sanding on it..didnt go into the PUPS and body routing.Dot it so cheap IMHO and it plays great so at this point in time its no matter.
Its beyond me why someone would want to beat it up and make it look old. STUPIDITY

Look at the Reliced thing this way: What does Clapton order when he gets Custom Shop to build him any guitar? Answer: NOS

Why? " To play a guitar that looks beat-up just for the sake of perceived antiquity is a bit daft now, isn't it?"

So who buys reliced instruments for the most part? Look around you...it's not Clapton, Robin Ford, Eric Johnson, or any other pros. Fender makes a fortune relcing these things, so I don't want to rain on that huge financial parade, but Clapton must just laugh at all the wannbes out there. Better yet, I doubt he understand it at all, as witnessed by his above statement.

John Mayer buys them. He is a pro.

Doesn't the story go that Keith Richards asked Fender to make him a copy of his old, beat up vintage Tele so that he didn't have to bring it out on tour with him and risk it? That sounds like a valid reason. But Fender doesn't check that we have a real 1956 Strat before it sells us a reliced version ...

That's the difference. It's not re-creating anything that's ours! I own a 1958, and a 1962 and a new Masterbuilt. I use the Masterbuilt on the road when I play because it's totally insurable and totally replaceable. And it's not a reliced version of one of the old girls. Why should it be? It's NOS and stands on it's own very nicely :) My '58 once hung proudly on a wall in a music shop somewhere I'm sure, and never thought of herself as inferior just because it was 1958, and people hadn't yet learned to beat guitars up before they got sold.

See how far we've come, Leo?

There is a guy that stops by the local guitar store with new guitars he buys and then relics himself, then wants to sell back to the store at a premium!

Sure. And can you blame him? He sees this goofy s*&t going on, and thinks to himself " what a thing to do! I can beat something up, and sell it back for more than I paid...maybe...what a grand idea!"

The music store likely tells him to go take a hike, but then goes and orders the same thing from Fender, paying the same premium! But what do you do? People are plunking down real dollars for these things. Young boys are putting coffee cans for exhaust pipes on little cars too, and laying down $300 for that horrible sounding coffee can. What does one do...make them all the coffee cans and fart cannons that they can possibly pay for!

Only $300 for a coffee can? Clearly, it's not from Starbucks.

Love,
Todd

Clearly not. More of a pedestrian blend resembling Folgers.

I just bought a 60's relic. Just happened upon it at a local store. It's an 07 that went for 3 grand new. I got it for 1429.00. It played wonderfully and I got a kick out of the heavy relic job. Funny thing is that I've never been so comfortable playing a new guitar before. I've always had new or near mint guitars and always fussed over them. Always worried about fingerprints, scratching or dinging it. You cant hurt this thing. It was actually quite liberating playing this thing. It looks like it survived 2000 gigs. I'm considering buying another. Now I wouldnt pay 3k for a new one but you can get used ones for around 1900 bucks on ebay. At the moment I'm following 3 56 relics on ebay for around that price.

They can look pretty cool, that's for sure.
