Hi everyone ! i'm new here and well, maybe some of you will know what i'm searching for... Everyone says that the very early Jeff beck strat signature neck was fat, some call it a base ball bat ... BUT , who could tell me the specs of this neck please ? what is the precise tchickness of this neck at the 7th fret , and how wide is it ? i know the specs of the actual jeff beck neck, but i'd like to know the ones of the old one, from 1989 ...
you can't find any clue on internet, no article wich talks enough of this strat.
And i someone would like to sell it, i could give a good price, cause i'm searching for this.
Best,
Adrien

That neck had no taper: 1" thick, from the all the way down the line.

In 1990, Guitar Player published an article by Dan Erlewine called "Supernova Strats," where he went backstage and checked out the set-ups on both Jeff Beck's and SRV's guitars during their co-headlining tour that year. I believe the article is reprinted in the "Guitar Player Repair Guide" by Erlewine. Beck's guitars at that time were the original signature models, and had these huge 1" necks, as I recall.

But the real sorrow? I found a half dozen places on the web where someone had reprinted the information from that article about SRV's guitars. But not a word about Beck. The true innovator always gets ignored.

Oh thanks a lot Jim . really that's kind of you. well, i didn't find those place on internet about these articles but maybe, do you know wher it is ?
1" thick, well it makes me think that it's not too deep : it is 25,4 mm , and the actual jeff beck neck is 24,1 mm thick ... it's like nothing . are you sure that the 89 jeff strat has a neck like this ? not deeper ? then maybe i should get an actual jeff beck strat, but i love he look of the early jeff strat, for the neck, with the sperzels, and the wilkinson divided in two . by the way, if someone still have an old jeff strat to sell... or an old wilkinson to sell...
thanks again jim.
in fact it's great that jef isn't as known as some others, that his life stays secret like this, it makes him more human than the others, more real. but it's true, he's really the innovator wich deserve a lot of admiration. no much people can say that they brought something to the music. he can.
when you think about the relation that humans got with the music, when you're wondering : and now, what can we do new, in the way to do music ? so much people don't even try to think about this, but admire a lot what jeff does and i saw him live three weeks ago in toulon, south of france, by the sea, and it was extraordinary.
Best,
Adrien

And, what do you mean by "no taper" ? i'm french so i don't know everything in english. do you mean that this neck was 1" all the way, with no angle?

i just used google translation and yes, taper means this i think , right? no "cône" so i understand . and wher did you learn the size of this neck ? do you have one ? is it also wider ?
Best,
Adrien

Hoya!

"No taper" signifie qu'il n'y a pas pour ainsi dire de "biseau" entre la tête et le manche (à l'arrière bien sûr).
Cela implique que le manche est très gros (je pense un peu comme celui de la SRV...

Moi aussi j'en voudrais bien une... :-(

Be funky

:?: Hi; are you sure you're looking at the correct item? The Beck signature did not get released until 1991. The Custom Shop designed some guitars for JB but he did not agree to an official model. I bought a new 1989 AMDeluxe Grafitti Yellow that was from the designs made for JB as a salute to the yellow 32 Ford seen in American Graffiti. These became the Strat Plus if they had the locking tuners.

Hi jeff, well i bought a 91 jeff beck strat, awsome neck, exactly the same as jeff beck . this one is olympic white, and i'd just have to put an actual jeff beck white body and it would be a perfect replic . damn, this neck i bought is awsome.
the 89 jb strats were not sold until 91, but fender started to build them, even with the serial numbers of 89, 90 , in 89, and sold them in 91.
mine is 91-92 , fat neck. i'd like to put some john suhr pickups, like jeff.
can you post a link to show me your yellow graffiti strat ? i think it's interesting.
Best,
Adrien

Hello Adrien;
Your axe sounds great. I always dream of a CS top of the line JB strat or that Esquire. But I'm glad I got an unofficial version. The shop guys gave me the low down when I was ordering my guitar in '89 and was blown away by the crazy yellow. Years later I worked for a guy that had an original '32 Ford, and he said JB tried to buy it off him at a car show. I have a pic of my stuff...not sure how to link, but if you click on my profile my MSN is my email. I'll send a pic, and no worries about your security and such. -JB2

ok , i'll add you on msn when i'll be back in paris, i'm in south of france right now, with a low connection.
cool that you met the guys who attracted jeff with his car.i'm sure now that jeff has a lot of yellow stuffs in his house ; )
my neck is quite orange, dark, beautiful, same as the picture that you can see on wilkipedia, about jeff beck, when he played at the cross road festival . i saw him a week before, in south of france, by the sea, and what he di was amazing, even better than other concerts i could see in videos.
best,
Adrien
