I just bought an American Series Strat in practically unplayed condition (still has the finishing on the frets) for my son and put CS69's PUPS in them (just couldn't get myself to put them in my new deluxe).

The guitar has a 50th anniversary logo on its neck plate and a Z3 serial number ... consistent with the year 2003/2004.

The papers with the guitar said it was model number ‎011-7402‎-725 which i believe is an American series "standard" model not the 50th anniversary with CS 54's. The PUs i took out did not look like custom shop and where not signed by Abigail.

So what guitar do I have here ... is it an American series with a nice neck plate? or what?

Thanks and cheers

I think no response may mean that we don't know.

I know that I don't know.

Sorry.

If I remember correctly, all the MIA gutiars that year have the anniversay indicated on the rear. The special "ANNIVERSAY MODEL" also has it on the front of the headstock.

I'm getting some noise from the guitar I just bought... not the 60cycle hum but noise that my Deluxe doesn't emit.

When we were installing the loaded pickguard with the CS69's in the guitar in question we found that the original pickguard/pickups had two black grounding wires , one was hooked to a rosette in the wood (in the pickup compartment), the other went straight to the tremolo, however when the technician installed the new pickguard with the CS69's he hooked the grounding wire to the rosette only because it had only one grounding wire.

Could that be the problem ?

Do I solder another grounding wire from the pot to the tremelo?
or Do i hook the grounding wire of the new loaded pickguard to the tremolo instead of the rosette?
or is this just fine and the problem is in the pickups themselves?

Thanks
Hisham

I guess i need that extra wire to the tremolo body .. the noise is just unbearable ... especially with effects

All grounds should go to the tremolo claw. If they all go to the rosette thento the claw thats ok. If one goes staright to the claw and the rest go to the rosette it could cause a ground loop but you would hear it as 60hz hum.

Thanks Nikininja

So what I have to do then is solder a new wire from the rosette to the claw. I think the original grounding was done through two wires, one to the rosette and another to the claw. The new loaded pick-guard only had one grounding wire though.

Why not do what I did? Send the serial number (email or phone) to Fender and ask them. Easiest way I know to find out...

I believe there were three models of 50th anniversary guitar; one a Custom Shop Model which has a Custom Shop logo, a Deluxe model with gold hardware, and a Standard model with chrome - all with SC pups.
Thanks

American Stan. Strats do have the two grounds as you said one to the body cavity and one two the trem. both ground pigtails are solderd at the same point on the pot opposite from the three blk. wires from the pickups on the Standards so I would just solder the grn. at the pot along with the body cavity pigtail on you new one as well. Its one of those things thats easier when you are looking at it but the problem does sound like a Ground issue.
