Hi all

Do any of you Fender guys (or girls) know why the treble pickup on my strat is in a diffrent angle than the other two pickup's? Is it a design issue or is it related to a tone issue?

That's unique to the design of the Fender Stratocaster. Find yourself a copy of The Stratocaster Chronicles and dig into how and why the guitar was conceived as it is.

It has been lauded as a model of 20th Century design and engineering within its group.

Hm.... I dug into the Wikipedia about the Fender design. Here it says:

The neck and middle pickups are each wired to a tone adjustment knob, while the bridge pickup, which is slanted towards the high strings for a more trebly sound, has no tone control.

So not only is it for the design :)

Which is also partly responsible for the Hendrix tone!

In my infamous book Tavarez writes:

"The rear pickup is slanted for a very important reason. That was because when you pluck the instrument way back near the bridge, everything is more brilliant, but you lose the depth. So, the reason for the slant was to give a little more vitality or "virility" into the bass strings and still mantein the brilliance that we wanted."

HIS words. Amen.

When Doc does sarcasm you know about it.

On the slanted side, i wondered why i never liked the danelectro bridge pickup sound. Now i know eh.

Sometimes you just cant see the woods for the trees.
