His "uni-vibe" is actually a Fulltone Deja Vibe. He uses Fulltone effects exclusively. Their version of the Uni-Vibe is hands down the best on the market. Google them, you will see why he uses them exclusively.

Yes, Trower is a big fan of Fulltone.

I believe Fulltone is making a "Trower" pedal ... I think I saw the prototype at the Fulltone website. I will have to check that out again.

I played it, very very cool but in my opinion not worth the premium over the OCD. That live album in Germany was done with an OCD and it really doesn't get any better than that.

I have a dvd of Trower's Hot Licks video that he did back in the (I think) early 90s. In it he plays just through a Dunlop wah and what appears to be a vintage Boss CE-2 chorus pedal and he is able to get his classic sound. He also is playing through vintage Marshall Stacks with both a Marshall head and a Fender head and has his Strat tuned down one full step. Trower wails on the video while making some of the most outlandish guitar faces I've ever seen!

Yes, Robin Trower has the "guitar faces" that only a Mother could love.

It's a good thing he wasn't going for the "boy pop star" career.

Some of his mid-'70s outfits were pretty funny too.

But he sure tore it up.

What is the effect that he uses? Besides the Wah-wah.

A Uni-vibe. This is creates that "swirly" sound on "Bridge of Sighs". Hendrix also was a big user of this pedal which seems to be a reason why Trower used it. He is currently using a Fulltone Deja-Vibe for this effect.

There are several effects manufacturers that make this type of effect today:

1. Dunlop Univibe reissue
2. Voodoo Labs Micro-Vibe
3. BBE Soul Vibe

to name a few. I have sampled sound clips and you-tube videos of all three of these and they sound great. I will probably soon purchase the BBE Soul Vibe myself.

I know he is currently using the Deja-vibe but in the Bridge of Sighs era he was using the original uni-vibe. Dunlop has only found a way to get the rights of the original to make their reissue.

I checked out some sound clips and videos on the Deja-Vibe online. It sounds great but personally I could not justify spending that much on one when the Soul-Vibe goes for $130 and the Voodoo Labs Micro-vibe @ $150.
They sound great at a more reasonable price. If I had money to throw at birds I would consider the Deja-Vibe.

bluez81, you've got to hear them in person. I just traded my dunlop in on one and the difference is staggering. It made a lot more sense after reading about how Fulltone made it. Check it out on the Fulltone website- the pedal almost seems a bargain after you see all that they went through to make it.
