Van Halens first album was the reason I picked up a guitar.

There seems to be a lot of us that are about the same age on this site. I also was 17 when the white album came out. I received it as a Christmas present from my girlfriend at the time. Over teh next six months it was lieterally worn out. I used to go to sleep with it on the record player with arm to the side wo it would play over and over during the night. It was a long time before I switched to something else.

I am going to make you all feel old - I am only 27 now! I wasn't even a twinkle in my parents eyes then - in fact they were only children. But I must say that these albums we have mentioned - most of them from the 60's - speak sweet music to my ears the same way it does yours. I love that music knows no age, race, language, etc. It touches us all. +1 cherokee747 about the Allman Bros. live @ the Fillmore East. I've been listening to it a lot this week. I love them Statesboro Blues! :P

That honor goes to (drum roll please)...... Sinatra Live at the Sands. It's 1966, and it is Las Vegas.
The music is by Count Bassie and his Orchestra. The arrangements are by Quincy Jones.

Wow, interesting choice. OK, I'll go get it. It SOUNDS like it'll be amazing.
Question: who's the guitarist on the LP? (I assume someone is comping for the Count.)

Love,
Todd

Hold on, I just thought of another one that while not currently on top comes close too. Robert Johnson The Complete Recordings. I have had that under the bed for a long time. I just dusted the box and I am going to listen to it. :)
if you have never listened to him you should find some mp3's on the web.

on the Sands record the guitarist is showcased more on "Making Whoopee". I don't know the man's name. :D

Freedie Green and Herb Ellis are the only guitarists I've been able to find associated with Count Basie's band. I do admit that I'm not very good at googling, though.

Love,
Todd

The first Metal bands I started listening to were Ozzy and Iron Maiden. I wanted to be able to play like these 2 bands. Picked up my first guitar and started to learn the Sabbath songs (easy to learn by ear). The rest is history.

Man, there are soooo many great albums. It is hard to pick ONE.

That ABB live album is certainly a contender in my book.

But I haven't decided for sure yet.

I got three #1 albums! lol

#1: ...And justice for all_Metallica
#1: Rust in peace_Megadeth
#1: Never neverland_Annihilator
(the solo on "The Fun Palace" is worth a listen)

I grew up listening metal, and I'm still into it! Although I can certainly appreciate other music.

I'm trying to think about guitar solos from bands/songs I wouldn't normally think of. How about:

"Baker Street" Gerry Rafferty - not difficult, but cool
"Roadrunner" Bo Diddley - not really a solo, but bitchin' tone
someyhing off "Weld" Neil Young - I know, his solos are usually one or two notes but he gets so much out of that note or two.

Love,
Todd
