Hi Guys

I thought I should introduce myself before posting too much, so this is my first post. My guitars are posted in my sig, hopefully.

I have been playing for about 25 years now, but nothing too serious, its just my hobby and love. I love all music as long as it can be fit somewhere in the rock and roll catagory.

I have been reading here for a week or two. I must have read over 50 pages here of select posts to avoid asking too many redundant questions. Mainly set up posts because it took me awhile to set up my new strat...feeler guages sure helped.

Anyway, look for me to start posting my 2 cents here and there

1.Did anyone else find their new strat was not set up real well from the factory? On mine, the pickups were set lower than the fender specs, the saddles were not parallel to the bridge plate, more like whoever set the saddles thought they should also follow the radius of the neck...not the strings height...but the saddle itself, which the fender manual says they should be parallel to the plate. So I have been doing a lot of tweaking, and I think I now got it right now. When I played it in the store it seemed great, it was when I got home that these little things started to bother me. My ESP still has the same factory set-up from when I puchased it new in 1995 and its great...not trying to be a troll, but this is true

2. Also, I tightened the claw screws to draw the trem to the body. The threee factory springs are parallel, and I see where some of you have the \!/ shape. I also read where some add springs. Just with the tightened springs it seems to work well, but am I doning something that could damage the guitar?

Thanks

Your not damaging your guitar by tightening the 3 springs so dont worry. Ive had a good mix of setups on fender guitars over the years, good and bad. I think its either down to the shop, how long the guitar traveled and was in storage or a bad factory setup.
On a side note my esp ltd is still garbage after a year of tweaking. Everybody lets one slip every now and again.

Thanks for the reply! I wonder if one of the "techs" at GC set it up??? Sorry about your LTD, I have no experience with those guitars. I assumed they were pretty good quality, but the ESP guitars are made in Japan and I think the LTd are China??? I'm not sure

However, I am loving the tones and the neck of the new strat.

i really like the Olympic White with maple FB, but I have been wanting a guitar that you could see wood grain. When I went to buy my strat, I looked at them all and loved the Sienna Sunburst. They had one with rosewood and another with maple. The rosewood had a beautiful body wood grain, but the maple had some figuring on the bass side of the body that did not match the grain on the treble side of the body, so I looked onward. So I went with the three tone, and am very happy. My wife on the other hand is not so happy. She has not seen much of me since getting the guitar 8)

Welcome to the forum... Congrats on your new strat... there are lots of resources on the internet where you can learn really well how to set up a guitar properly.. You say your ESP's setup is still good ... but I highly doubt that after so many time and years it doesnt need a setup.. I am sure if it is setup again you will feel it even better... every guitar needs a setup every once in a while.... its just a natural thing.....
Hey nikinja what do you think is the problem with your LTD ? I have an ESP LTD kh 603 and It is an excelent guitar... I dont like to compare guitars but that one is perfect I have not one complaint about it and Ive had it for over three years now.. I just love it... so Im curious about yours... :D

I hear you Synkronized, but this guitar has rarely left my house and the room its in, so its been in a controlled environment all its life, which helps. Also, I think there is an advantage of using light guage strings (9's) as they do not put the stress on the neck higher guaged strings do. But you got me though, it needs fret work. I raised the action because the 15th fret is worm on the treble side. I will never be doing the pick tapping anymore. Its like a tiny hammer on the string beating against fret. Sounds cool though. But the relief on the neck and intonation is still good. If the fret wear was not there, it would be great. Have you ever owned a quality neck thru?

Well my LTD kh603 I think is pretty high quality :D as I was saying it is very well made and it stays in tune forever.. same with the sustain it is just endless .... but yeah I know someday my frets will be so used that it will eventually need a re fretting job.... one thing I have to say is that I love the original floyd rose bridge.. I havent seen another tremolo system that is better so far... it really stays in tune.. I can grab any of my floyd rose guitars any time and it will be in tune ... till one of the strings breaks... that doesnt happen with my fendersss.. but I still love them..... theyre different but theyre all good :D

[I Have you ever owned a quality neck thru?[/quote]

I have a (Lefty) 1980-81 B.C.Rich Mockingbird. It's 24fret and neck through. I've had no problems with the neck - and I bought it new. But (if I remember right) the truss rods (I think there are 2) only go up to, like, the 16th fret. The 2 other BC Rich guitars my friends bought around that time had big neck issues. I have it strung with 10's.

Love,
Todd

Is the LTD a neck thru? I really don't know those guitars. Is that the LTD version of the KH2?

I agree on the original floyd. They are absolutely killer. Some have said its a tone killer, i would have to disagree. Anyone that says that must not have owned a original floyd. The tuning stability is unreal. i opened my kh2 after not playing for a couple of months the other day and it was in tune still. I think it only needed a fine tune on the high E. The EMG 81's are really designed to be in front of a high gain amp, but I found some good tones on clean by rolling off the volume and slighly on the tone. Made my brother take notice as he played his LP. When I play out, the floyd equipped guitar is a must. I also like how when in a bind when a string breaks, it always happens at the bridge. So I can unlock the nut and unwind the string a bit and lock it back down at the bridge and your back in business.

Yep it is a neck thru and yes it it is actually the LTD version of the KH3
which differs from the KH2 on the body shape as you know :) it is a fine guitar made in Korea and not Japan... but I dont judge guitars based on where they were made... since I have seen and Own chinese made guitars with original floyds as well and this LTD korean made that are really fine guitars :D Image

That's right I have seen those. Very cool! I can't tell the difference from the ESP. Well except the price...

I would be $100's richer right now had I opted for the LTD and MIM strat
:(
Now you've planted the buyers remorse seed...j/k

I don't think the LTD KH models were available in 95

Oh and thank to all for the welcomes. I am excited about my new strat. Little kid with a new toy style :D This neck is sweet!
