There's a guy selling a John Mayer on Craigslist that I'm interested in. He's advertising it as a John Mayer Signature "only 500 made" Mica.

I had him send me some pictures and it looks like the one's I've seen but this one had the tradtional looking Fender kobs vs. the guitar type that appear on every other picture or advertisement I can find about this guitar.

Additinally, my research indicates it comes with a mica soft case with blue liner, but his comes with a black standard type case that has a label on the inside that say "John Mayer Signature guitar case bye incase".

Bottom line it that it the body color apperas to be Inca, at least from what I can tell in the picture, it actually looks a little grey. But, other than the non traditional body color it appears to be just like the standard signature model, i.e. knobs, case, etc.

He insist that everything is original. Can someone from this forum or from Fender tell me what this is?

Is there a way to easily identify the limited edition models, i.e. specifiec type of serial number on the neck plate, etc.

I'm ready to pull the trigger on this one, but I need to make sure I'm getting the real deal. Could somone help me out?

Thanks,

Yes. That's what I said in my original question and what initially made me curious. This one does not have these it has the traditonal knobs and the traditional bag, but it is this color. I'm going to try and post a couple of picures so you guys can see it.

Thanks

This instrument looks like the correct color body and appears to have the African rosewood fingerboard. The knobs are definitely different than what is normal on this color body. I would like to see more pictures. The string tree is in the correct location but the strap locks look weird also.

I didn't notice the strap lock and unfortunately these are the best pictures I've been able to obtain. What do you see that looks odd? As you can see the case is black. Do you know if this model ever came with this case?

Also, do you know how these are numbered? I've asked to see pictures of the back of the guitar. I'm thinking it looks like a limted edition with the regular case and some changes?

Case and control knobs are wrong. Lots of Mayer Strat parts sold on ebay, so could be a partscaster. You should remove the p/guard and the back of the p/ups should have some "John Mayer" designation, as I remember. Those Big Dipper p/ups along with the terrific neck are two of the best features of the Mayer Strat...

Pull the trigger! It's a great Strat and addition to any guitar collection. The color changes depending what light conditions are present. It's a great guitar and you won't be disappointed!

Out of curiosity... what is the serial number on your mica green strat? I was looking at buying one also thats a pretty accurate partscaster as they call them... same body and neck and pickups... I just wonder what the serial number is on yours to see if that neck was even close to originating from a mica green jm strat. I'm afraid if i buy it that it will not have any resale value other than parts because its an assembled guitar rather than a factory orig. Any thoughts or opinions would be appreciated.

Man, be sure to check it out really well. Get the serial number and call Fender to find out. There's tons of scam artists out there. Don't pay a premium for a partscaster. By the way, what's he want for it, did you check other prices?

Dude wants a 1000 bucks US for it. I just cant decide if its worth it or not.. I supose if it had the right parts just from different guitars it may still have some value...I just can't decide. Its tough when you can't look it over in person. Anyone else have any opinions on this? I was partially looking for a nice guitar for light play and partial investment... do you think its greatly devalued if the neck doesnt match the body or if the serial number is meant for a different colour JM guitar? :?:
