Hi all....AGAIN!

Sorry had to start new thread cos didnt know how to bump mine bk up.

I've take my AM Standard bk to the shop, the setup guy has told me that it's as good as im going to get it without having a Earvana or Buzz fitted. To be honest it's not a route I want to go down. I have compaired this problem to 3 or 4 other guitars now and it's mine that seems to be the problem, the low E @ the 1st 2nd & 3rd are way sharp....anoyingly so, and the saddle cant be moved back any further. As for all the other strings, they are still sharp and basically when playing along to songs I can still hear the problem, it's really getting to me now. Im using my Korg Pitch Black to tune and it's is confirming all the sharp notes around the first 3 even 4th frets. I've just had my dads American Std out and his sounds way closer to the mark than mine and that things never had a setup in its life. I was thinking maybe taking it to another Guitar tech before going the dreded rout of having to take it back all together.

PLEASE HELP.........AGAIN!

sounds like the frets or bridge could be out of possition. What gauge strings are on the guitar? How is the intonation reading at the 12th fret. If you can set it slightly flat do, flat tones are far less offensive to the ear then sharp ones.

Looking at my earvana's The low E is set forward of the traditional nut possition and at the bridge end the saddle is back from the marks of where it was set with a traditional nut. So it doesnt look like its the answer for your guitars dilema anyway.
I'd be looking to take it back mate.

How about getting a second opinion?

Ad the 12th all read nearly spot on (a little sharp) appart from the top string which reads quite sharp and the saddle is right back. I wouldnt want the bridge screwing further in either as it's already very low, so therefor I can't get any further back, that's the main prob at the 12th......as for down the bottom.......an open A/D/E they just dont sound right and each single note shows sharp on the Korg. Am Gutted at the moment because I think the Guy in the shop just thinks I'm bonkers, but the TUNER shows it aswell. If worse comes to worse can the stores even give refunds? i've neva had to return anything back to them before.....I WOULD REALY LIKE IT NOT TO BE THIS GUITAR EITHER![/img]

You never told us on the other thread which shop you bought it from. Is it the one Nikininja named, where he says the tech is no good?

You say it is currently set slightly sharp at the 12th: if the tech looked at the guitar and said it was OK then for starters the tech is not up to scratch. So 01GT eibach's suggestion of a second opinion is a good one.

What part of the country are you in? Someone may be able to advise you of a decent tech to take it to: though if this set up work is to be covered by warranty he has to be a Fender Authorised Dealer.

Before we even return to the subject of the lower frets, if the saddles cannot be placed to intonate the guitar correctly then you have a dud and it must be returned. You should be aware though that this would be a very unusual circumstance. There are variables with guitar manufacture - but fret placement, scale length and bridge positioning are not usually amongst them, from huge mass producers such as Fender.

I suspect a decent tech will get this guitar flying for you. Find that tech!

Cheers - C

Im from the North East UK (Hartlepool), guitar from REVERB Stockton on tees Middlesbrough. There's a new guy not sinse long opend a shop called ENVY GUITARS in Hartlepool, I've been getting to know him over the last 3 weeks and he has blown me away with his backgroud knowledge on Guitars, he seems like he knows his stuff and he mentiond that he usually does around 2-3 setups a week. Maybe he is my best bet first, I think he is on the list of fender uk dealers aswell in the northeast.

So does this look like my 2nd plan of action? and would it cause problems with my warrenty or getting a refund if it came to it, which obviously Im hoping it doesnt come to. If I could post a pic you'd see why!!!

I had the same problem on the Low e on my Am Dlx, unfortunately, when I went home to grab it, someone took it, so I was never able to try out the things people here suggested. I would definitely recommend taking it to another repair guy/ luthier. I worked as a salesman at a number of car dealerships, and cant tell you how many times I heard people bringing their cars into the shop with problems other service departments said were unfixable/ or "just the way they're supposed to run", then finding out one of the techs found the problem and fixed it in a half hour. Guitar techs are like doctors, they're not perfect, many of them think they're better or more knowledgeable than they really are, and are too arrogant to tell you they don't know how to fix it. Remember, most of the guitar is made out of wood, which no matter how messed up it may be, can be fixed if you have someone with enough talent to do the work (and sometimes enough money to make it happen)

It sounds like the guitar is the problem... when did you buy it? can you return it or exchange it? I would exchange it because sometimes even american strats can come out wrong... :)

I got it 3 weeks ago, Brand new. Would getting it looked at by another tech invalidate the warrenty or wouldnt it matter? dont want to do anything if it affects taking it back for refund or repleace if i had to.

As long as you go to a tech that's certified to do warranty work for fender, there wont be a problem. Just google "Fender Authorized" repair in your area/
