Hi everyone, i was at my local guitar shop the other day and he had a used 08 american deluxe, practically new, in a tobacco sunburst(i think). he wanted to sell me it for $900. what do you all think, should i buy the used one or get a brand new one. is this a good deal? this will be my first strat. i have a gibson les paul but saw this and i said, self, this IS your guitar. i want a strat but dont know much about them, im young and havent been playing long. i have worked long and am close to enough cash for a strat. i want to make a good decision. anyone have some help. thanks. :D

Check it out thoroughly and make sure it is in real good shape.

The Am Deluxe is a really great strat and is the flagship of the Fender Strat line.

I have one and would not trade it for anything period.

I would say to check the neck for straightness, the frets for wear, the body for dents and/or scratches, the metal for oxidation, and try it through a good amplifier and try every control on it. Make sure it intones good.

If it meets all of this, $900 is a reasonable price for it.

If it meets al the above criteria, yes it's a good deal. Usually goes for more.

It is hard to ever go wrong with an Am Dlx. However, besides what was said above ... MAKE SURE that you get the guitar's original OEM case, and not some other random HSC. For the 08's Fender switched to these beautiful cases. Don't get gipped with some other case.

Make sure it's in good shape, not B-stock. If you look on ebay or craigslist, you'll realize that is a really good deal, almost unbelievable. I see people trying to sell their 10 year old ones for the same/ more than you can buy a new one. They're going for 1225-1250, so if you can get one for 900, run/dont walk and buy it.

At $900, it's a killer deal to me! As long as it is in good shape, like others have said. When I was shopping for one, the only one that I found around that price ($875), was a beat-up 2001. My advice to you is search this site
for the specs on the Am Deluxe, learn it by heart and double-check everything from number of frets, abalone inlays, snapping tremolo, DZxxxxx serial number and so on.

Good luck!

I have an American Deluxe Strat, and it's a great guitar. If it's in good shape, go for it. They usually sell new for $1,200.

I agree with the above posts as I have an 07 and I would not sell it for $1300. I do wonder why the original owner got rid of it. Make sure the neck is straight and the electronics work properly etc. If so and it is what it's supposed to be it's a steal!!

I got my tobacco sunburst Ash Deluxe/rosewood fretboard new - only last month - from Guitar center for $1116 after the 10%special they're running until the end of November. The offer of 900 seems consistent with Ebay prices on used Deluxes.

This sounds like a good deal. I paid $1250 for my ash tobacco sunburst American Deluxe. It's my first strat and it has been a pure joy to play.

I would ask for a 7 day return policy if at all possible. If it looks good to you buy it and take it to a luthier to have it examined. He could look it over and probably charge you very little for an inspection. This is what I would do.

I have a Lefty 2002 Deluxe that I bought new at Guitar Center for $1100. It's a great guitar with a great neck and cool upgrades. Even without inflation, you're getting a great price on a great guitar. Just make sure, like everyone says, that it's what it says it is.

Love,
Todd

I use 2 cases for my American Deluxe Stratocaster. One is a Gator G ATA road/flight case. I have the ATA case up for sale because I will more than likely not be flying, and won't be doing extended heavy touring.

The other, and my favorite is the G&G Tweed case with red plush poodle lined interior with the Fender logo plate under the handle between the handle mounts.

Thwe American Deluxe is a truly splendid instrument, "too nice a guitar to be a Fender," is the personal feeling.

Why they did not give a neck-brige pickup switching option is forever a question, though.
