I have, and let me tell you: it sucked. Never got it back.

I'm a teacher...it was the summer of '05 and I was out for a bike ride. Some guy broke into our townhouse and took my electron blue MIM Strat with maple fretboard, it's gig bag, my Monster cable, my tuner, my college graduation ring, and some other odds and ends. I called my wife and had her come home, we filed the police report took fingerprints, canvassed the neighbors, all the usual.

I cried like one cries when someone dies. My guitar lesson was the next day: I couldn't go and have to sit through a lesson with my cheapy Silvertone. It was devstating to know that someone broke in, violated our privacy...but then they took my favorite possession of all. I had saved and saved for months to buy it and I played it every day...and here's some salt for the wound: Just a few days earlier, my friend Randy and I played our first (and my first) open mic night together. We did great!!! And guess what I used: that's right.

After the insurance money came in, I went and got another one. The guys down at East Coast Music Mall in Danbury were cool enough to sell it to me for the earlier year's price. I loved my Strat so much, I bought it's twin brother...however, this one has nice wood grain patterns in the freboard...it looks like chevrons that point to the headstock. And I think the new one has better pickups...they each are a little more distinct...possess more character. I think I lucked out and ended up with a better guitar. Am I glad it happened? Hell no...but it all turned out ok.

And I think they caught the son of a $@!&*.

Thanks for reading.

Sorry about that stolen Strat, losing your favorite guitar is like a family member/girlfriend dying. I know the feeling. Thankfully I got my old MiM back! Never again will I buy a crappy Jackson guitar...or trade in my Strat. :D

But on a side note, its good to know you got another Strat that really called out to you. There just is nothing like a Strat, even a MiM one. :)

Back in 1969, I had a brand new one stolen after only having bought it 5 days prior. (For the curious: Hardtail, tripleburst, rosewood fingerboard, white plastics.) I had saved up for a very long time to get it.

I got the word out to everyone in the neighborhood and I found out who took it (a junkie) within 2 days. I went to his house. He denied having it but there it was in plain sight, sitting in the open case right in his living room! I just pushed him aside, closed the case and walked out with the guitar. To this day, I can't explain the mixture of emotions which went through my head at that moment!

In the 2 days that he had it, he made my then, 7 day old guitar look 10 years old. I have always kept and still do keep, all my guitars in pristine condition. Consequently, I am not nor ever was, a fan of what is now known as, "the relic look".

Yes, I felt like I and the guitar were brutalized. I honestly couldn't stand looking at it because of it's appearance and history (albeit, brief). So, I sold it for a big loss vs. what I paid for as it looked like any other well used Stratocaster. Once again, I had to save up for the difference to buy another one for a very long time.

In retrospect, I guess I should have simply filed an insurance claim and been done with it. Live and learn.

Never had my Strat stolen; however, I did have my Jackson off-set V stolen back in the late 80's. It sucked, at that time it was the best guitar I had ever owned. Damn meth head needed it for his habbit. (Yes I know who did it, who he sold it to, and there was nothing I could do to get it back, unless I wanted to be dead.) I did beat his butt pretty badly when I found him, but it did not help the pain I felt losing a friend and my prized guitar at the time.

I'd writte inside the body of my guitars something like "this guitar has been stolen please contact the police" or something like that so if someday one of my guitars is stolen one day the person who bought it will see that inside the body and will know that it has been stolen :P:P lol

On Jume 22nd of this year, while me and my band were playing at a St-Jean Baptiste party (in Quebec, you could say it is the equivalent of your
July 4th), some $@!&#*%(s) stole my brand new dodge caravan along with my spare guitar, road cases for the drum kit (my drummer has the Roland TD-20 Vdrum), cables, mics, guitar cases etc... All I was left with was what I was using on stage at the moment. We were about 75 miles away
from home at 3:00 am. To top this, I was carrying all the PA system. So
we had to drive back home, went to bed at 6:00 am, woke up at 7:30 am,
started making phone calls to my insurances, then went to drummer's house, took his F150 and drove bach up there, then it started to rain, we had to wait like 2.5 hours before we could load up the truck. I made it back home at 9:00 pm. Do I know the feeling...? $@!& yeah

Man getting your stuff stolen sucks. Sorry to hear about it.

So far I have been fortunate and none of my guitars have been stolen. It's a scary thing to think about for anyone, but even more if you have multiple guitars. It's tough to replace one let alone several. Plus there is the whole feeling of violation. Not to mention the loss of a guitar that you've built memories with.

3 weeks ago a scum-bag that was staying with a tenant(another scum-bag) broke into my place and reached into my window and pulled out my 3 month old American Deluxe strat. Unfortunately I cant prove it was him (even though when the landlord tossed his $@! out because he was already evicted, he mentioned my guitar, which he wouldn't have known about unless he took it). What pisses me off is that my employer went out of business abruptly and gave everyone no warning, so I was out of a job, then a month later i shattered my ankle chasing some punk who grabbed my ipod at the library, then his friend grabbed my ONE DAY OLD laptop and went out the other door. I cannot replace this guitar anytime soon. The only reason I could afford it the first time is because I traded in a guitar I had, and as a birthday gift, my brother paid the remaining balance. Like i said before, the only way to describe the feeling of my strat getting stolen is grief/ mourning. It was way worse than being laid up for 6 months and having my laptop/ipod stolen. I would go through that again if it meant getting my guitar back. PLEASE, be vigilant in protecting your equipment. Believe me, it will never happen again.

It's good you have the neck, from what I've been seeing, if you want to build a strat from stock parts, the neck is the most expensive part by far.

The original body was black
The neck is rosewood, it's a nice piece of wood too.
You are right I should re assemble it.

Yes...a '58 Strat body....In 1969...by CBS-Fender. I've told that story elsewhere, I just thought I'd add it again here

I record the serial numbers on my guitars...just in case. My house was robbed years ago but the guitars were not touched. Everything of sentimental value was taken which means nothing to the theif. But the old saying comes to mind..What goes around... comes around...

Not a Strat, but my brother and I lost our Univox guitars in a break-in. He never played again. I saved up for and finally bought my first Fender, a '71 sunburst Mustang.

I have serial numbers and descriptions of all of my guitars and amp now, as well as digital pics.

Yea same here- I didn't lose a strat- but way back in '70 I had bought a brand new Gibson LP Deluxe- Heritage Cherry. I had taken it to a luthier and had it refretted with Ovation frets and had Grover tuners put on. That guitar was fantastic. Had it for about a year, was headed to a gig and went into my work place to pick up my paycheck. The guitar was in a case under the seat -you could't even see it. I went in for my check came out in less than 10 minutes, and the car window was smashed in and the guitar was gone.
Funny thing- about 4 years ago I was cleaning out the garage and I found the original tuners- sealed in plastic. They looked as brand new as the day I got the guitar. I still have em- can't bring myself to part with them.
