I would like to buy a 2nd strat, I've got a Mexican standard now but I want something with more "power" but ..... affordable! What's the story about the HWY 1?

The highway 1 is the entry level USA model. I started with a MIM and added a highway 1. The bridges are very similar. The main differences are the pickups the jumbo frets and the head stock. The main differences I find are the sound of the pick ups, you can roll the highs off nicely, and the jumbo frets. Someone in another post said if you like to strangle your fretboard while you play, it will take some adjusting on the jumbo frets or your chords / notes will sound sharp.

All in all a very nice guitar.

The finish is also different. Personally I don't have any experience with the Highway 1, but many people in this forum do and can help you out. :D

Yeah I forgot about the finish. Nitro cellulose very thin finish looks dull or hazy but you can buff the finish to a shine if you so choose. I did.

The highway one neck itself is VERY solid ... you cant compare it to a mexican neck... I dont know how to explain but when you have your hands on the highway one neck you will see what Im talking about :)

lol, i just came from my music store like 5 mins a go and played a rosewood sunburst hwy 1 amongst other things, I had played it before but this was a quick reminder of how I hate those jumbo frets, they just dont feel right in my hands, of course you might like them, you gotta try them.

Yeah these guitars are VERY versatile as well. I own one and have played many and the tones these things produce can match anything. I play in a soul/funk band and use it as my main guitar and it will give you excellent buttery clean tones or screaming distorted tones. The neck shapes are a little on the big side if that's what you like. And the finish, in my opinion, is the cream of the crop. Honestly, I prefer them over the American standards and even the American deluxe models. If you're looking to upgrade from the MIM, the Highway One is the way to go. :D

I have a 2006 Pre-upgraded Hwy One and it's great. I personally prefer the small headstock and medium-jumbo frets, but that's just me. The new Hwy One's have much better pickups. I had to change out my stockers. Both my Hwy One Strat and my DRRI are 60th Anniversary models. You can't go wrong with a Hwy One. I played an Epiphone Les Paul Vintage the other day and it just felt cheap and lame. And while it had some good distorted tones, the clean tones were nothing compared to my Hwy One.

One of my Strats is a 2005 (pre-upgraded) Honey Blonde Hwy 1 w/ maple that I love dearly. I put a set of CS69s in it, shielded it better and it's a great player.

I own a HWY 1 Sunburst SSS. Since I bought it I have a hard time putting it down. Love the feel and tone. Definately worth the price. I would recommend it to everyone. :D

+1 I also chose to buff the finish of my Highway One to a shine.
