I'm going to put some noiseless pickups in my strat and I'm trying to find the out how much of a difference there is between the "hot" noiseless and the standard noiseless pickups. I know that the hot ones were supposedly made for Jeff Beck. Are they just a bit brighter?

I can't help you much in this area but If you go to the pickup forum and do a search there is a lot of good info! Martian seems to be knowledgeable in this area and has just posted some good info! :)

I'd hope not. theres not much between a typical supernova and vintage noiseless in the way of brightness. I think Hot noiseless are darker than vintage noiseless.

That's my experience too.. when I was still searching for the appropriate guitar @ guitar center last Saturday I played both a JB signature custom shop (the salesman's own guitar, who graciously brought it for me to try) with the ceramic noiseless and an Eric Clapton signature with the VN. The JB had a hotter/louder, darker, beefier and fatter sound compared to the Clapton I played (TBX set to 5). The SCN's (at recommended pickup height and without using the S-1 switch) sounded the thinnest and weakest of them all.

The best tone of the three that I liked was the JB (ceramic noiseless Pickups) no doubt, it, however, did not have the traditional strat sound, at least to my ears.

For noiseless non-fender pickups I'm looking at Dimarzio's Heavy blues 2 and area 57-61-67... I've heard great things about them.

Cheers

I bought a set of Hot Noiseless Strat pick ups and I found them to be brighter than the Fender regular noiseless pick ups and this is due to the fact that they use ceramic magnets. it is all person preference because I like the SCN noiseless pick ups. I didn't like the Texas Special pick ups because of a hard upper midrange but a lot of people like the Texas Specials. I have tried and owned dozens of pick ups and sometimes it is what your ears get used to and what amp and other gear you are using them with.

Once again, thanks, fhopkins!

The 'hots' are slightly more powerful, less sweet and more, "in your face" than the 'regulars'. If you listen to very recent Jeff Beck playing his signature Stratocasters vs. very recent Eric Clapton playing his signature Stratocasters (when he's not using that nasty boost), you'll easily hear the differences.
