Installing a Floyd Rose on a Strat is relatively complicated, I suggest you to ask a professional to do the job properly, another alternative is to hunt down one of the american classic floyd rose of the 90s, they're very good guitars, very well made.

I put a floyd rose on my Strat and it worked great. if you know much about wood working you can do it your self. you can get the diagram on the floyd rose website. All you have to do thats relly technical is drilling for the posts that pivot the bridge. even thats not hard. Best of Luck

I voted yes but there is a condition.
I think Floyd's are great trems but only if your really going to use it alot. If you are a casual trem user I wouldn't bother with the expense.

Do yourself a favor and get a real Floyd Rose, not the "licensed" knock off. Life is too short to play cheap guitars, drink light beer, date fat chicks, or drive economy cars.

Take your time and it'll come out nice. Measure twice, then when you're sure everytning is correct, measure it again.

Try gigging several nights a week with a Floyd, I can almost guarantee that you'll soon not like it. YMMV? :?:

I agree with a lot of the other people. If you are an occasional Tremelo user, might not be worth the expence. If you are a constatnt dive bomber, yes. I agree to have it professionally installed.

Agreed for the original Floyd, the only other option would be a Schaller, that is sold under its name and under Floyd Rose II: they're different from the original design, some consider then inferior, to me they're just...different.

Anyway to install a Floyd Rose you need to change the pivots, different spacing, cut the pickguard and also a part of the the neck, what is over the nut, in order to install the locking nut.

It is also true that I've seen some special locking nuts to be installed on the Stratocaster that actually require a pair of holes and they're mounted ABOVE the real nut, I like them but they're different to procure.

Oh, if I have a guitar with the tilt neck it would be better, because if you want to pull the tremolo you will need to give a angle to the neck.

In general, the best Floyed Strat I've seen is the '57 that Dave Murray has, it was modified in the years 1980-1984, he installed the Floyd between the piece of mind tour and powerslave, in Japan they made a good replica:

It also has a pair of Dimarzio Super Distortion mounted on rings, many would say that he slaughtered a vintage Strat but I think it's the ultimate heavy metal Strat.[/quote]

Try a Super Vee my friend has one on his Standard Strat and its killer, we couldn't get the thing to go out of tune, and you won't have to do any mods to the guitar.

So that Super Vee just involves a locking nut?

The original was never actually modified. If you watch the Live after Death video you can see it is still the original trem. He did have another that was fitted with a Kahler however. He also had another Strat that was the same except it had a Rosewood Board. He didn't start using Floyds until he got the Jackson and a couple of ESP's. Later on when he and Adrian got the custom shop models where Floyds installed stock.
Not to be preachy, I've been a fan since 1980 and have been into their gear.

Not to be picky, but that guitar is in possess of his mother and does have a Floyd. He also had another one, a '64 I think, with the Floyd and the other one with the Kahler.

According to the booklet of Live after death he used:

1)a '57 black strat
2)a '64 black strat
3)a white Squier (with Kahler)

And a pair of Lado Strat.

On the other side Smith was using a Lado 2001 WITH Floyd, a black charvel WITH Floyd and a Hammer Scarab with Kahler.

I am aware of Adrians. If you check the Biographys and pictures that original was never installed with a Floyd. Here is a picture that a fellow fan has, plus I have it on my wall.

To quote" Besides installing some DiMarzio humbuckers to fatten it up a bit, the guitar was no further modified". I have the Live album in vinyl and you can see that the Rosewood has a Kahler, the '57 is a vintage trem. If you have the DVD watch it, you'll see.

Mmm, I recall a Strat with Floyd in LAD, maybe it's the '64. I recall that guitar with the vintage tremolo in the piece of mind tour.

The ones with Floyds are the Lado models Dave also had. The Rosewood had the Kahler. If you have the old album it's really cool because you can see all the pictures and the complete gear lists. I know it's not complete in the newer release of LAD. Not sure about the extras in the DVD. IF your a fan The DVD is a must it has so much cool stuff in it. Might have to watch it again tonight!!
