I just bought a new American Standard Stratocaster. I am not sure if I like the .09 gague strings it came with. They don't seem to have much ton. Do I have to have the guitar set up by a repair center to put on .10 gague strings ? Does it require filing the groves in the bridge ?

You can get away with .10's. You may have some buzz if you do not have the nut filed for .10's.

I've got 10's on all my Strats and have never had to file my nuts. Mike

The nut should be OK changing from .009s to .010s. You will most likely need to adjust intonation a bit and neck relief if you don't like the action being a bit higher.

Any time you go up or down in string guage you need to have the entire setup checked.
