fantastic information!

Curious, what was the reference with all the names listed at the bottom? Was he citing examples of players that used non-nitro finished guitars or something?

guys.. I just wanted to thank you all for your time intesive research on this subject that I posted.. jarabolos, nikinija and others ..

yes, initially, I was not too happy about the 'yes, it has poly' news .. I'm sure I can learn to live with it.. hahaha .. I just knew there had to be some truth to what I had initially read ... as I usually read from several sources.. etc ..

and it was most intesting to learn a bit of Fender history!

either way, my beautiful AV 57 RI is a truly sweet sounding guitar and I have absolutely NO complaints as far as all that goes ... finish looks fantastic, love the v-neck, pickups sound excellent, love the vintage curves ... and so on ..

it sounds so much 'brighter' , in my opinion, than my EC sig strat and my 08 American strat .. vintage tone , baby .. oh yah ...

my only regret ..

I didn't buy the 2 tone ... instead, I have the Ocean Turquiose...

anyway.. thanks again ! maybe I'll get lucky some day ..and I'll be able to afford a true vintage Fender guitar ... hahaha

nycTom,
If the guitar plays and sounds nice, does it matter what finish is on it.

geez, Nikininja .. well of course it does .. especially since I need to oficially 'name' her..

now i need to cross off my list of names:

'Mighty Ms. Nitro' (not as good as "Mighty Ms. Nitro-Poly")

or
'Sweet Laquer Sally'

or
'Cindy Cellulose'

but hey, I'm sure I'll think of something else ..

(applause from the viewing Forum readers?) no? hahahaha

Anyway .. not sure of your question .. but I was very interested to know why there is a Poly base, etc .. on these guitars when the SPECS to not mention)

and it seems there are others out there who were wondering the same thing...

so there you have it ...

Ok, I can actually be useful here, for once! I just read The Stratocaster Chronicles by Tom Wheeler, and from that it seems they began to put the poly under the nitro so that the wood grain wouldn't begin to suck through the nitro and take away the more "plastic" look of the non-clear finishes. Plus the poly coat makes the surface smoother to color over to begin with. Sounds like the OPPOSITE of what most of us today would want, doesn't it? But I guess fashion goes in and out with everything, guitars included.
