Hello all,

Well I have found 2 strats that may become my first lol. One is a 2003 MIA Standard with maple fret, and the other is a 2004 50th Anv MIA standard.

My question is, were these good years for strats? Would one be better then the other? I know the MIA standard went thru changes for 08 so I'm not sure if I should buy these.

2003 with gig bag only is asking $890 canadian. I think thats a bit much. This guitar has only seen 4 months worth of user lessons then he never played it.

Thanks for any input. =)

If you can...try to play them both. See if they are what you are looking for. Keep in mind:
1. Feel...the guitar has to feel good.
2. Sound...Does it have the sound your looking for? Use all the pick-ups and try to play on an amp simular to yours.
If you can answer these questions I think your question will answer itself.
3. Playabilty...The guitar has to be easy to play.

Never buy before playing. It is my opinion that Fender has always put out a good guitar. You just have to find the one that speaks to you. Also ask youself if $850 for a used guitar is worth it or would you be better off buying a brand new Fender with a Waranty? Hope this helps a little. Good luck with your purchace. Keep us posted.

I got my two 2004 American Standard strats for $750 each with hardshell cases. One still had the stickers on the pickguard. Both were in perfect condition. As for sound and feel, I couldn't be happier.

All other things being equal (if both are in similar condition, you like the finsh on both, and they both play nice), I'd get the anniversary edition just because it's the anniversary edition.

You can't go wrong with an MIA Fender.

Get the one you want more and that feels good to you.

It's not like one will completely suck and the other is the holy grail from the year. But, if you play them, there is one that will speak to you more and you'll know right then which is the one you have to have.

I'd get the anniversary model over the standard 2003. Although make sure it is indeed an anniversary model and not just a 2004 model as ALL 2004 American Strats featured a 50th neckplate even if they weren't an anniversary model.

I'd find out if it's a standard, why it only comes with a gig bag and not the hardshell. Make sure its a standard, and not a highway 1 that's being passed off as a standard.
