Hey all, thanks for reading.

So I am practicing my sweeping scales, and I keep realizing that whenever I lift my index finger off the third string, it produces this hum (the hum of the string being struck SOMEHOW) I went over my scale sloooowly, and I still got the same sound.
Could it be that my strings are too old? Or technique issues? I haven't changed my strings in a good while, and use D'Addario.

For the record, I use a standard MIM Strat.

Try changing the strings...it may correct the problem.

Yeah  I had thought that might be the issue.

Could you or someone else tell me; what are the signs that let you know it's time for another set of strings? It seems like I can bend the strings easier the more I play them. When is the point where you just need a new pair? Just a shadier sound or something?

I generally change mine once a month. I play my guitar alot and it's needed. There is also a flat sound that keys me in to change them as well. Using a string cleaner (like Fast Fret) will prolong the life.
